I picked up 6 leds in strips of 3, pre-wired and waterproof, and then bought a power adapter that runs 12v and wired it to a switch, cost me round $12 with shipping of ebay, and it works really nice

biggest thing i can say is be patience, and always monitor your water parameter too, helps to write them down, it can help you later on if problems arise.

Yeah it does look a little clustered, and the electrical tape doesn't help. You should clean that up using some heat shrink or something more water proof and permanent, as far as everything else just keep an eye on everything and inspect it well after long uses
