If you put sand on top of gravel, eventually the sand will work its way to the bottom, and the gravel will be on top.

Are you going to put the sand on top of the gravel, or remove the gravel and have just sand?

Personally, I would put some sort of background on it. I would also put some sort of large decoration in as a centerpiece, or a larger piece of driftwood if you want to keep it natural. And I think the black gravel will look better than the multi-colored you have in it now.

You know, I was just thinking. Have you tried removing the strainer at the end of the intake to see if that improves the flow? The strainer has a ball in it that, according to Hagen, prevents the water from siphoning out of the intake in case of a power outage.

That definitely does not look like 300gph. Or even 150. Very perplexing. I'll be very curious to see how mine does.

I've heard that before about Fluvals losing flow with time. Have you contacted them? I have a 206 on a smaller aquarium. I haven't noticed the flow lessening, but it's only been a month or so. I've seen a lot of people on the forums use bio-balls and scrubbies in canisters. So you'd recommend two trays of Matrix or Biomax (or some such)?

Oh sorry, it's for a 46 gallon glass bowfront. It will be freshwater. I've never used Matrix or Substrat Pro. Should I fill the middle tray with it? I've also never used Purigen. Likewise, should I fill the top tray with it? I'm thinking a coarse sponge and two fine sponges in the bottom tray.

The only "chemicals" I've been using is Stability, which is a beneficial bacteria supplement, I thought. Unless you consider Nitra-Zorb a chemical. Should I remove the Nitra-Zorb?

I have an Aquaclear 50 on a 16 gallon tank, and it's nearly silent with the lid off the filter. Put the lid on, and it's louder. So I leave the lid off. But like others have said, I have a Fluval 206 canister that is absolutely silent.
