    Molly with clamped fins

A picture is worth a thousand words. I was suspicious of a spiking cycle when you said; my fish is clamping it's fins 'once again' but after seeing the top loading filter I was pretty sure. Yes, I saw your test results, but are you using strips or tubes? and if so, perhaps you tested at a time...

    What does brackish mean

Oh boy, here we go again. Somebody stop me. lol I see very few goldfish die from ammonia or nitrite poisoning; very rare. All that is required for the fix is treated water. The symptoms, which are clamped fins, vanish within a few days after treating the water with no lingering affects. The...

    What does brackish mean

I'm throwing my hat in the ring. I'm just a little goldfish keeper, and you boys are scientists. I'll keep my nitrite and nitrate knowledge to what goes on in my fish tank, not my stomach, but I won't change my mind on which one is more dangerous to fish. Nitrite is a lamb; nitrate is the devil...

    Molly with clamped fins

Clamped fins is a sign of toxins (ammonia or nitrite) in the tank; more than likely a spike in the nitrogen cycle is to blame. Every time you add or take a fish away the bio load changes causing the friendly bugs to adjust their colony size. It's also probable that the mechanics in your...

    What does brackish mean

Nitrates are the third and final toxin to convert in the nitrogen cycle. Nitrites convert to nitrates not vice versa. Yes, in the city drinking water is regulated, but in if you're on well water; nitrates can be a serious problem. You're getting a little out of league with all of this...

    What does brackish mean

Obviously, I have no way of proving anything to you or anyone else; not trying to prove myself right or you wrong; just enjoying a discussion on my favorite topic. Realize, I have absolutely no experience with any other fish except goldfish. My website; 'goldfish emergency.com' focuses purely on...

    What does brackish mean

Close, but no cigar; I'm thinking you may have confused nitrites with nitrates. Two or more of the following symptoms may be associated with nitrate poisoning loss of appetite; bottom sitting; bent positioning; curled positioning; crooked spine; uncontrolled swimming; swimming in circles...

    What does brackish mean

Well, before stumbling across this site (and Bill) I used to think I was a purest, because I never recommend meds, but Bill has set me straight on that. I'm glad to know I've got a little reinforcement out there with the salts. Just a few moments ago I recommended a salt treatment to one of my...

    What does brackish mean

Yes, I see your point Atomiclord, and I very much agree, but tropical fish require much less work than goldfish. I'm quite certain that if (or when I should say) something happens to me; my goldfish are doomed............... Here's a little story that might interest you guys. It will never...

    What does brackish mean

I must agree at how pleasurable it is to have an intelligent conversation. I've yet to come across someone in the fish industry that had similar beliefs. Quite the opposite. I've yet to meet a pro that thinks the way you do; it's very refreshing. You are so right about the meds, but....more...

New Tank In Progress Feedback Appreciated [Pics]

I've heard of all kinds of methods for removing the tannin from drift wood, but the fact is; it is what it is. Better to be safe than sorry. It never ends does it atomiclord? It's always something.

    What does brackish mean

Well now; I can't very well show a demonstration, but I've performed several myself, and I've convinced. Yes, the salt bath is magical for goldfish; unless the fish has been over salted in the past. I've seen it bring back many a dying fish. As far as bacteria or parasite infection is...

    What does brackish mean

Good to know. I agree to a certain extent. I run into a lot of folks that think it's just fine and dandy to keep goldfish in salt water; they think it keeps their fish from getting sick. Fact is; most of the breeders are salting the heck out of their fish. I also run into a lot of goldfish...

    Howdy

A big howdy to everyone. I've got 120 gallon stock tank with seven goldfish ranging from 2" to 12" and 2 yrs to 12 yrs. You guessed it, I'm a nut for goldfish. I also have a goldfish website. So many of my members have other fish such as loaches or plecos with their goldfish, and some have...

What type of fish is a convict? Would love to see a pic.

    What does brackish mean

I'm going to assume that loaches require the same type of housing as plecos? I've often wondered what the difference is. I'm placing this site in my link collection; for whatever it's worth. It's not very often I come across a friendly site with good info and fast. You guys should get a...

    What does brackish mean

Very much so. In the past I've recommended not to keep plecos with goldfish, and I'll continue doing so in the future. Although I might consider myself an expert with goldfish; I know absolutely nothing about plecos. I had no idea they grew so large. Goldfish grow their entire lives; averaging...

    Cedar Driftwood?

I would use the driftwood in a garden or display anywhere but your aquarium; this is risky business.

    Cedar Driftwood?

I'd use the drift wood; cedar or not in the garden. It's risky business using any type of drift would in an aquarium.

    What does brackish mean

I'm a goldfish keeper, and have a goldfish website. I'm here because several members keep plecos with their goldfish. I've always heard this is a no no. Could someone tell me what brackish means? Could someone tell me what temps plecos should be kept at? Does anyone know if plecos can...

    My Pond

Love it; love the color of your house too; a wonderful green. Nice job on the stones, very natural looking. Did you know that water hyacinth grows in the shade, but flowers in the sun? Nice job

New Tank In Progress Feedback Appreciated [Pics]

I might be concerned about the drift wood; known to leach toxins into the water; unless it's fake that is. Other than that the tank looks great. I love what you've done with the gravel; most folks spread it out evenly; yours looks very natural.
