I see Endler's priced anywhere from .99 each to $2.95 each. They are a type of guppy and they breed like guppies....in other words, like rabbits. In one lfs I've seen yellow Endler's for $3.95.
Dwarf gourami are fairly sensitive, in my experience, especially right now with so many coming into the US with Dwarf Gourami Disease. Good luck with your remaining gourami.
You have many, many options for other fish. For personality you could try a male/female pair of Bolivian Rams. I...
Tips I've learned
1. Don't put your tank near a window.
2. Your tank will weigh around 250lbs...make sure your stand can handle it.
3. Make sure the surface of your stand is even and level.
4. Use a dark colored net.
5. Buy schooling fish in *schools*, not one or two of them.
6. Research the...
I agree with choosing smaller cories like pygmy or panda and getting six. They'll be happier and you'll get to see more of their cool behavior. They are much more fun to watch in a shoal. And if the betta is a grumpy one, he'll be less likely to pick on a shoal.
I've got two types of algae. I've got green filmy stuff growing on the glass and black hairy stuff growing on my driftwood and on my plants. I turned my lights down to 6 hours a day and that slowed the green stuff down, but I still have to scrape it once a week or I'm looking at my fish...
I doubt your paradise fish will allow much of anything else in her tank. They are one of the most aggressive freshwater fish available. How did you decide to get one of those? I've had one, loved him, but couldn't put anything with him except 5 Badis Badis....and that was in a 30 gallon tank...
I would stay away from the Dwarf Neon Blue Gourami. They are a notoriously weak strain of Gourami, and the dwarf gourami's in general that are coming into the US right now are often stricken with Dwarf Gourami disease, Google it. And stay away from it.
If you want your tank to be super chill...
Wow, I have 7 tiger barbs in my 55 gallon and they never bother anyone, not even each other. They are in with 1 angelfish, 3 pearl gourami, a large school of neons, 4 emerald green corycats, 2 yo yo loaches, and 8 otocinclus.
I have yo-yo loaches and they pretty much mind their own business on the bottom...except they eat snails. You mentioned a snail somewhere. They'll make dinner of it.
Yes, I have some branchy driftwood in the tank, and it is fairly heavily planted. I have done many 40% water changes and filter media changes during this time, and I only use Prime. I've sat and observed the tank many times and there is no aggression in the tank whatsoever. The tank mates are...
I've kept bettas for years and haven't seen anything like this. I have a 20 long planted community aquarium in which my centerpiece is usually a male betta. My male betta died unexpectedly with no warning signs. I'd had him for about 6 months. I got another one. He died in a week. Again...
I've got a 10 gallon with a crayfish in it. I love my crayfish, she's great fun. Very entertaining, and something different. You just have to make sure and get the kind that doesn't get past 5" or so.
I'm using the same substrate, but I understand that the bacteria grows on the surface of the substrate and I'll be disturbing the substrate so I think I'll lose the bacteria on the surface. Also, I'll be losing all the bacteria on the surface of the glass on my original tank. I'm not sure if...
I am moving my tank and will be upgrading to a new tank during that time and am wondering if it will kick it into a new cycle? I currently have a cycled 55 gallon planted tank. I plan on moving about 30 miles away. I will be removing all the fish and plants and transporting them all by...
I've been keeping bettas for years, but I just had 2 die from the same tank and I can't figure out why. I had the first betta in a 20 long planted for a couple of months, all is well, then one day he's suddenly dead and so are two corycats. All of the other fish are fine and thriving. I...
I agree about the angelfish needing a bigger tank. I wouldn't put one in less than a 40 gallon. They can be 12" tall. Some people do put them in smaller tanks, but I like my fish to have room to swim. They really need room to manuever.
But it had to be something that caused a sudden oxygen depletion because all of the various species started gasping at the same time. If it were ammonia/nitrite, they would have had various tolerances and started gasping at different times, right?
I don't think it was the ammonia/nitrite because it had been higher before and over time she'd brought it down significantly. What was left was low, especially comparison. I've seen her ammonia/nitrite off the charts high in that tank (she's not the best fishkeeper) and I've never seen such a...
A friend's 55 gallon tank had the strangest thing happen. Suddenly, without warning, all of her fish were at the surface gasping for air. All of them, all different kinds of fish. The only thing she had done was change the water, add Prime, and add a bacterial product. She's done the same...
It makes a big difference as to whether or not they are German Blue Rams or Bolivian Rams. The GBR are very sensitive to stress of any kind and can die rather easily. I wouldn't put them in this tank. I may do the Bolivian Rams though, they are much more hardy than the GBR.
