    Protein skimmer problems

I have a coralife super skimmer also and it seems like I have to "break it in" everytime I change something (PWC, top off, after feeding [which I power it off during feeding or it goes nuts], or powering it off to clean the collection cup). It seems more difficult to regulate than it should be...

I don't know the answer but I like your thinking. I would love to bring some of the OBX home with me.

    Sand Rinse

Sounds like a plan (an obvious one at that)

    Sand Rinse

Here's a question that probably has an obvoius answer. How does one go about rinsing sand before adding it to an established SW tank?

    New to the forum..

One suggestion I would consider is the size of the tank. Don't think that because you're a beginner that a smaller tank would be better for you to start with. I initially bought a 29g tank with that thought in mind along with space consideration. I enjoy my tank but I wish I had at least had...

    New to the forum..

Welcome to AA! Glad to see another North Carolinian in here with me. You've come to the right place to get started. There's a lot of knowledgable aquarists in here and they're quick to jump on your threads and offer advice and solutions. You'll learn a lot in here just reading through the other...

    Going out of town

Well, I feel a little more at ease. Thanks guys. Maybe I could set up a web can on the tank while I'm gone? Nah. That's a little overboard. lol. Besides, I'll be 300 miles away. I could see myself trying explain that to the cop when I'm rushing home to save the day.

I know exactly what you mean. I could sit there and watch my for hours. Great way to relax and escape the stress.

LOL. That's exactly what I was thinking when I started this thread.

    Going out of town

Maybe my anxiety is unfounded. Everything has gone so smooth with this tank that I just keep waiting for "Murphy's Law" to kick in. I'm not crazy about automatic feeders either. I feed them once a day. After they finish their "frenzy" I'll skim out any large leftovers with the net. I don't...

    Going out of town

My lights are on a timer and my power is very reliable. Even when we have had outages in the past it is usually restored in under 3 hours. My parameters stay consistant, so far anyway. pH=8.4, Ammonia=0, Nitrites=0, and nitrates hover around 20. I'm just nervous about leaving it unattended...

    Going out of town

OK. Now comes the part I dread. I'm going out of town Labor day weekend. I'll be gone from Friday night till sometime late Monday afternoon or early evening. I really don't like leaving my tank unattended for this amount of time and I don't have anybody to look after it. What advice do you...

    Snowflake Eel

One thing I have heard about eels, and you may already know this, is that they are great escape artist. The top of the tank needs to be completely covered in some fashion. If there is the smallest opening available they'll find it and slither out.

    Quiston About Getting Started.

I agree Flake. Cody, I think it's great that you're interested in having reef tank with a Nemo fish. It's just not something you can through together fast and cheap. You need to work your way into it and gain knowledge in the process. I have seen quite a few new people posting in here who have...

    Tank needs recovery help

You'll probably get a lot better and more thourough answers from the more experianced people in here but; I would think you're livestock as acclimated to the conditions of your tank over time. Any drastic changes would probably stress them hard. What are you're water parms? You need to focus on...

    Quiston About Getting Started.

Not asking for specifics or being nosy but what kind of financial resources do you have being that your 15? I don't want to discourage you but there is not a way to build a SW tank cheap, especially a reef. It also takes a lot of patience when getting it started. The pay off is enormous though...

Nice looking set up. Looks like everything is coming together just fine. Nice water clarity.

    Stocking a 75G

Definately get some peppermints if you enjoy watching shrimp. I have 2 and I love watching them. They'll stand there and sway back and forth (my wife calls them Stevie Wonder shrimp) and when food shows up in the current, they come out and snatch it out of the water when it comes by. They're...

    Help i've been bleached!!!

That's such a shame. I hope everything works out OK with the corals. I'm not an expert but if it were me I would replace anthing that's pourous, except maybe the LR. I would attempt to salvage them mainly because of the expense. I would be real nervous with any livestock in there for a while though.
