    Going out of town

I've left my tank for 5 days before with no feeding and everything was fine. If we fishkeepers do anything, it is usually overfeeding. The reef doesn't have anything like the amount of food we usually add to tanks so a few days will be no problem.

    Crabs galore

Depends on the type of crab. I once had some sort of Atlantic Hermit crab that was really big. I thought it was really cool until fish started disappearing and about $80 later I saw it perched across a sort of hole in the live rock set up that I had and it grabbed a $20 fish. That was his...

    Aquarium Software

I want to be able to track everything about the creatures. When purchased, size, health issues, and so forth. It just didn't seem really capable of it. (at least easily)

    Unbelievable

I had a one in my old tank. I decided to move it to my classroom when I was switching things around at home. I put it in a bucket with a large net covering the top the night before. My wife woke up and went into the den to work on the computer. A half hour later, I heard a blood curdling...

    Aquarium Software

I downloaded it and gave it a quick try. I was hoping for something that did more. I didn't see any way to track living things with it.

    lava rock

I have 5 or 6 pieces under my live rock in my temporary tank (until I pick up my 65 gallon on Friday). It will then be used as the base for the live rock in the new tank. I did that on my 150 when I had that too. It works fine and you can't even see it so it doesn't really matter what is...

    Rubbermaid sump?

I was thinking of doing the same thing that jsoong talked about for my sump. The Petco by me has 2.5 gallon aquariums for about $12. I was going to sink the aquariums and use them as holders to keep other stuff out. I am using a glass fish tank though and went ahead and used acryllic sheets...

Help with Coral Selection and Placement

I edited the above because the bulbs are actually 96 Watt and not 65 Watt. That should make a difference in the coral selection. Any help would be appreciated.

    buying inverts. online?

Other than the occasional dead snail or hermit crab (when purchasing a bunch), I've had good luck with liveaquaria.com and its inverts. I've had all types of snails, and hermit crabs as I said along with starfish (sand sifting, brittle, and blue), shrimp (Peppermint and cleaner), and even a...

Help with Coral Selection and Placement

Here are the tank details: 65 gallon main tank with a 15 gallon sump underneath. (Total probable volume of about 75 gallons) (Perfecto with a corner overflow set up) 60 pounds of fine grain aragonite. 45 pounds of fiji live rock (standard bolder type) and 25 pounds of fiji fancy branch...

    Is a sump really necissary?

I like using a sump for several reasons. #1 - Adds volume to the water. I can up the total quantity of water which makes for a more stable environment for the fish. #2 - I can hide all of the equipment. All of the heaters, filters, skimmers, and such are out of sight. #3 - My show tank...

    Please review plan/give advice

I've had a snowflake moray eel (named Malfoy) and it was a very cool fish. Just watch when cleaning, feeding, or moving rocks. I can tell you from experience that they have very sharp teeth and strong jaws. When I pulled my thumb out of the tank, he came with it. I haven't had a Volitans but I...

    Order fish online?

I ordered a juvenile Emperor Angel many years ago from liveaquaria.com and it grew into the most beautiful fish that I've ever owned. I've been buying fish and inverts there for over 7 years with no problems other than the occasional dead snail or hermit crab. They do have the Diver's Den...

    Restarting a Reef Tank

Thanks HN1, I forgot to post that I have a 60 gallon pond in my backyard and a 55 gallon freshwater planted tank in my classroom. (The 55 gallon tank now holds the survivors from my 150 gallon freshwater fiasco)

    Restarting a Reef Tank

Hello all, Glad I found this site as it has been very helpful. My background will sound familiar to a lot of people here. When I was a kid, I kept some small 10 gallon freshwater aquariums in my bedroom. After moving to college, I got out of the hobby for a while. I got married, had a...

    Water Change Storage

When I had my 150 gallon tank, I used a large rubbermaid storage container. It probably held about 30 gallons of water. I kept it in my garage, but at some point, somehow the heater melted a hole in the bottom and all of the water leaked out so I don't use that method anymore. I just keep a...
