All the ones I have seen come with a way to calibrate. Mine has a very small screw to turn. I use my RO water as a based and adjust until it reads 0.

On my current sump, I put LR rubble in it. When I added it to my current sump, it cut down on the bubbles into the skimmer area. The bubbles and any foam floated to the top. The slats are really there to keep the LR rubble in place and not migrate out of the area.

The skimmer in the pic is a place holder. The skimmer I am looking at (reef octopus super) will take up just about the whole area.

I had the same type jump when Iswitched. If is a temp correcting refrac, make sure you give the water sample a30 seconds to match the temp of the prisim. Also, I calibrate mine on a regular basis.

I think the GE II has the mold stuff. You need GE I for the silicon. They don't sell black I at most home centers but you can find it through some online vendors. I probably won't build the tank as there isn't much of a price break for doing so. I'll have the black added by the builder.
