Patching a Hole in a tank

So.. do i connect a pump in the sump and does the water just gush out from that hole? or would i connect another pipe? sorry. I haven't used this setup before. I was just thinking of just patching the hole and use the over flow into the sump below and have a spray bar as a return.

    Guppy Breeding Questions?

Female guppies usually give birth around every 3-5 weeks (it really depends on the guppy).

    Guppy Pregnant or sick?

Sorry for your loss. Some guppies when pregnant hang at the bottom or under a big leaf, if you have one. Some swim around like they're not pregnant at all and give birth all over the tank. Sometimes they do have complications when pregnant and suddenly die. Also Guppies live for about 2 to 3...

    PH level and fighting guppies

When I got my first guppies, they did fight each other, even the females to females. If you have 2 males, you could add more plants to break them up or give them hiding places, or add more females. I found that adding more females and more plants do help, but you need like 2-3 females per 1...

    Introducing fish from diff pH

Hi guys, Thanks for all the help, I've setup a QT tank. The QT tank has filter media and some gravel from the main tank. I've given up on getting new guppies as my female guppies have given birth to about 60 frys (4+4+12+20+30 order of birth batches) and the 8 (4+4) have been moved back into...

    Introducing fish from diff pH

I've done water changes, 20%, 20%, 20% and 20%. During these water changes, I've put less and less salt, last 2 had no salt. I got 3 more guppies from the LFS (NH3=0,NO2=0,NO3=80, maybe i should try another LFS). 5 hour slow drip. Finished at about 1AM. The following day Day 1 - Good Day 2 -...

    PH & Cycling

From what I've read, dont let the pH drop too far from 6.5 as the good bacteria doesn't like it (in other words, dead bacteria)
  12. D

Can you take another cycling question??

If you have prime (you can use others, but please check the bottle), you can dose it more. eg. 1 dose for the tap water + extra for the ammonia in the tank. It acts like ammo lock NH3->NH4 (safer and will be used up by the bacteria) but will register as active ammonia in the API test kits...

    Introducing fish from diff pH

Sorry, I'm all over the place. Currently i have 5 guppies + 10 frys currently in the tank. The 5 guppies came from the LFS (2 males from LFS A, 3 females from LFS B). The females have given birth to the 10 frys (3 + 5 + 1, in order from oldest to youngest). This was all done before the...

    Introducing fish from diff pH

    A big thanks for everyones advice. I got 5 new guppies from my friends tank (rainwater) NH3 - 0 NO2 - 0 NO3 - 20-30ppm PH - 7.4-7.6 he doesn't use salt or water hardener. I did a very slow water drip for 3.5 hours. Day 1 - looking good (eating) Day 2 - looking good (eating) Day 3 - 2 looks...

    Introducing fish from diff pH

Sorry, i should of been more clear. The LFS uses tap water, but the water parameters the guppies were in had 80ppm of NO3. NO3 in my tank is 10-20ppm

    Introducing fish from diff pH

Thanks for the info, I'll try a really slow drip method next time. I'll try it next week when i get some more. Unfortunately the 3 new guppies didn't make it. The other two were dead when i got home today. the 3 guppies were from the LFS. Tap water pH - 7.4ish NH3 - 0 NO2 - 0 NO3 - 80-100ppm...

    Introducing fish from diff pH

Would a big difference in salt/pH/hardness be a problem? No matter how hard i try to acclimatise some fishes to my moderately hard/slightly salt FW tank, they end up dying within a few days or getting sick. Is there anything that can be done?

    Introducing fish from diff pH

ohh dear Does that affect things? I haven't read much about the GH/KH. Would a big difference in GH/KH affect the fish? I've only got the API Master Kit. I currently add aquarium salt/conditioner to the tank which would make it ATLEAST 180ppm (10dGH) for GH and 330pm for NaCl. Edit: I've...

    BAD Cycle.... HELP!!

Thats great news on the cycle! Yeah, i just use the Bio booster as a helper, i don't really rely on it much, just remember the shake it up :) But after the cycle is done, i stop using it. Depending on the type of fish, you can use the salt treatment. I've used it before and it works, just keep...

    BAD Cycle.... HELP!!

I've managed to cycle a tank in about 3-4 weeks with fish in it and didn't lose any. 50%-70% water changes every day - My ammonia would go upto 1.0 before the water change. Bio Booster - The full dosage (what ever the bottle states) and on every water change would re-dose at the level of water...

    Introducing fish from diff pH

Thanks, I've read the article and I've done the Floating Bag method, out of 3 guppies. 1 have died, 1 is sitting at the bottom and 1 seems okay. This is after the 5th day... The first day, they seemed fine. But after the 2nd/3rd day they started to clamp their fins.

    Introducing fish from diff pH

Hi, My tanks have cycled pH: 7.6-7.8 NH3: 0ppm NO2: 0ppm NO3: 10ppm Currently with 6 guppies. The pH from the LFS is about 7.2-7.4. How would i introduce new fish from the LFS into my tanks without having them get fin clamp or pH shock. I know about floating the bag in the tank and slowly...

    Angry Angry Guppy!

Thanks Thanks for all the advice guys. After moving the white guppy into the Koi tank for a time out, I've had to move all my original guppies in there too (long story). He has calmed down and everyone is living happily for the time being.

    Angry Angry Guppy!

Thanks =) I moved the white one to the Koi tank, the Koi's are currently the same size as the guppy. I'll move him out once the Koi's get a bit larger. In the meantime I'll start adding alot more plants to the tank.

    Angry Angry Guppy!

Thanks for the advice, I got more guppies mix of male and female, 30 of them from a friend. 2 of the blue ones look happy swimming around and mingling. The white one and 1 blue one are still pretty constant in their advances to the females. I think I'll be moving them to my Koi tank later this...
