My parameters are 0 Ammonia 0 Nitrite between 10 and 20 nitrates Temp is 77-78 F I do 25%/30% water changes every Saturday or Sun. The other tank mates seem fine. I've not added any new fish or ornaments to the tank. The symptoms did begin after my last water change on Sunday though.

2 Month Old Platy W/ Swim Bladder Issue

My 2 Month red wag fry has developed a swim bladder problem. She has issues getting herself off the floor of the aquarium. She is still very lively, eats well, color is good ect. I'm going to try pea treatment with her. I was wondering what else you guys might think would work. I will be putting...

    Overstocked ?

Filter floss *polishes* your water by removing fine particles. Helps keep it crystal clear, plus its more surface area for biological filtration. You could run both filters and keep the other to use on a quarantine tank. The extra flow will stimulate your schoolers to school and i think you can...

My new 180 gallon tank! Need Help!!

Sorry to hear about all your fish loss. :( Your fish died because your tank was not and still isn't cycled. Adding so many fish at once also contributed. Your tank, as it is now ,does not have the beneficial bacteria to keep levels of ammonia and nitrite from being toxic. The only way to remedy...

What's wrong with my nursery tank?

Are you using test strips or a liquid test kit? If you are using the strips, they are usually inaccurate. I would suggest buying a liquid test kit like the API Master Freshwater Kit. Your tank probably isn't cycled at all. Especially if you had a reading for chlorine more than four hours after...

Ack, My filter went down the drain...

On it Jim! :) I have had them in a 2g with a bubbler. I've been adding flake food and left over frozen bloodworms to keep the bacteria fed. I may break down and just buy a better filter. I'm not really fretting over this, however...i was aggravated the day it happened lol. Just thought i would...

Ack, My filter went down the drain...

My filter is the penguin 170b, its been discontinued. I already tried to hunt down the impeller. Actually, none of the LFS around here carry spare parts. Hmmph, i even had to special order a reverse flow kit for my power head.

Ack, My filter went down the drain...

Right now i have an internal filter rated for a 10g, and and a power head with the pre-filter i had on my original filter. Both filters are using established media. The GPH is too low for my tank, but it should be okay for a temporary fix. I've been feeding lightly and will be doing my 1st water...

Ack, My filter went down the drain...

Well, the magnet didn't work..I tried 2 different types. A weak refrigerator magnet, and a stronger magnet. Both magnets just stuck to my sink pipes. lol Since I live in apartment, i decided to let them take care of it. I put in a maintenance request, so who knows when they will get around to...

Ack, My filter went down the drain...

The magnet sounds like a great idea to try, thanks for the tip. The video is helpful too :) Har Har Rookie *slaps knee* :P It appears my drain is both plastic and metal (the catch is plastic, the rest is metal). I also see putty sealing the PVC catch..don't think i'll be getting that off with...

Ack, My filter went down the drain...

So, today i noticed my filter output was just a trickle...I decided to dismantle it and give it a scrub. Anyhoo, while taking it apart and rinsing it my freaking impeller fell out and went down my sink drain hole. OMG To top it all off, i figured out why the outflow was so low and it wasn't...

    Rubber Lipped Pleco Question

Yeah, the hanging out upside down on stuff is very normal. You can feed him blanched zucchini, cucumbers, Nori, and try spirulina pellets. He will probably eventually get around to eating the algae wafers though; there is probably still some algae in the tank you just can't see keeping him...
