    40 Gallon Coldwater Paludarium Journal

How are the crabs doing? I looked into those, but I heard they are hard to keep in captivity.

    20 gallon freshwater

Maybe you could fin something from spongebob on the computer, or maybe blue with bubble like how they do in the show (I think, been a while)

    20 gallon freshwater

I like the spongebob theme in the first one! And the lighting in the second is cool, I like how it's dark around the edges and bright in the center. What lights are on that? Looks like you got some coraline growth on the back too, which is a sign of a healthy tank! good work!

    TH08TU's 20G reef build

So I found a dynamax LED fixture that was being used at the lfs for a pico reef, and I thought it was perfect. So I picked it up, and moved everything keepable to the 2.5 gallon. This includes: - Live rock - Live sand - Clean up crew (5 or 6 snails) - 1 Yellow coral goby - 1 small zoo frag (8...

    20G High Build

As promised here are the pics. Today I tore down the 20 gallon reef, scrubbed out the tank, cleaned out the sump, and painted the back glass black. Then I put in the flourite black, two bags and slightly angled it, making it a little deeper at the back. Next I placed a few lava rocks in the...

    moss ball question

I had one of those moss balls in my first tank. I broke it up because I wanted to make a carpet in the tank out of it. That failed for several reasons, but I think mostly because it didn't have roots able to get into the gravel. There are several mosses you could try, I am sure somebody more...

changin over my 220g fresh to salt

I did the same thing as you on a smaller scale, and was also nervous about drilling my tank so I purchased a hang on overflow. Honestly it makes a huge difference to the ease of everything with the tank, once you get it set up. There are many different ones out there so read some reviews and see...

    20G High Build

Hey again everybody, so after the recent crash of my 20 gallon reef tank, I've decided that instead of investing more money into a failing project, I would try my hand at a planted tank. So here is what I have: - 20 Gallon display tank - 10 gallon sump fuge with return - HOB overflow from...

    Should i get more lights?

    TH08TU's 20G reef build

Alright so here's another quick update. I got snowed in the other day, so I decided to build my stand. I was able to used doors from an old cabinet so it turned out to look pretty polished. Heres a quick picture: So anyways now I have a few options, I am considering starting up a planted...

    Stand Ideas

So i got snowed in today so I decided to build my stand. I will post pics later, but basically I kept it fairly simple in order to avoid issues, although I already have a few minor ones... I can't figure out how to hang the fixtures, and I am trying to plumb in a spot to do water changes. Other...

    Wet/Dry sump ==> Refugium ==> Return Pipe

Second Mr_x on that, it is impossible. Even if you get them close you will have a flood once a piece of anything gets stuck onto the intake. There are ways to do what you are thinking with one pump, however the plumbing is a little more involved, if you are interested I can make a quick diagram...

Safe Paint for sealing plywood tank?

thanks for all the replies! I like the idea of doing a plywood sump just because it looks pollished if done properly, easy to work with, and nice and square so I can put in some baffles to make it work like a fuge too. Mr. X, what is the plastic you are talking about?? That sounds like a really...

Safe Paint for sealing plywood tank?

So browsing the Rona website I came across this: RustOleum.com It says it is an epoxy paint however I haven't been able to find any more info on it. What I am wondering is would this paint be suitable to seal plywood to make it leakproof. It is a fairly cheap paint at $20 a quart when...

    Stand Ideas

Great thanks for the info! Right now I have a 20H, so I am going to plan on that one for now and maybe eventually (in a few years, once I am more comfortable in the hobby) upgrade to a larger tank. I agree, I hate the PC fixture, not only is it hot, but the 10 000K bulb by coralife it yellow...

    New stand!

Looks pretty cool! My only comment would be to watch how those pony clamps twist your cabinet. They can really pull them out of square quickly, and even 1/16" on a cabinet holding a large amount of weight like this one will eventually cause problems. Do you have access to a case clamp? if you...

    Slate caves

looks pretty cool, I did something like this with river rocks a while back which failed because I rushed it and they just didn't balance on eachother well. How did you stop them from sliding off eachother?

    Automatic drip water change system

Look pretty cool, I'm tagging along! Heres my two cents: In order to match the flow of the input and output you could do what the salties do and build overflows into the tanks. That way water would only drain when the tank gets to a certain level, and you don't have to match two water flows...

    Stand Ideas

I like that idea, although I'm not sure I see the value in upgrading my system into metal halide, which I think would require more engineering. Without turning this thread into a debate into lighting, do you think that my current lighting is enough for a reef setup. (1 24" Aquatic Life 2 x T5HO...

    Stand Ideas

thanks for the post! AS for your last quesiton I am pretty sure it is all back to normal now, and recycled as it was a few weeks ago the water was added. All my water tests read excellent actually, better than they ever were before hand, which I find a little frustrating but oh well. As for...

    Stand Ideas

So I also posted this in my tank thread, but I was hoping for some ideas for the DIY guys too. If that isn't allowed mods please feel free to delete this post. Anyways here goes. So I have had to start my tank over almost completely as I had an issue with a "helpful" neighbour filling my fuge...

    TH08TU's 20G reef build

Alright everybody time for an update and I need everybody's ideas on this one! So I have had to start over almost completely as I had an issue with a "helpful" neighbour filling my fuge to the rim with fresh chlorinated water while I was on vacation. If anybody is unaware or was thinking of...

    HELP!

That really depends on what else is in your tank. As a general rule of thumb, if it fits in the fishes mouth they will eat it, so if there are fish that are larger than it, it will be eaten.
