Umm, maybe it's just the splashing from the hob that I see. I had a look at one on Craigslist and, just like the ones on the store shelves, the bulbs are unprotected. I think I'll just get a bare 10 gallon and buy/cut plexiglas to fit. Placing it next to the main, I'll just do without a light.

Okay, the bucket's out than. Have you ever had a bulb blow over the water? Have you run yours with either an hob or air stone? I'm worried it will blow if I use it with the ac20 and/or just an air stone, they both create evaporation in my tank.

JSoong, using your 2ml water to 4 drops #1 & #2, did you compare the results immediately with a mix of the suggested 5ml water to 10 drops each? If so, were the results comparable? I imagine so per your post. BTW, thanks for the info...:)

Thanks. I read somewhere that this guy working at a lfs was told by the api rep in the shop that it was okay to half the drops and water mix to lengthen the life of the kit but I wonder if the rep was tech savy or just a sales rep pushing the product. I couldn't find out one way or the other...

Not to doubt you in any way but is it just me or does anyone else find it real odd that both are rated 200gph and yet there is such a big difference in obvious flow? It seem like the heavier flow has to be pumping more gph. I wonder if this is due to the much wider exit mouth on the ac50...

Same here, my real LFS uses the liquid too but the closest one happy to test my water is a 30min drive. Anyway, I've bought my first test kit ever and it's the API Freshwater Master Test Kit and it's in the mail.
