Im in the process of setting up my frag tank now. Im using a 20 gallon high with a T5 HO 24Wx4 light, 2 250gph powerheads, biocube protein skimmer, and a heater. Im running a open top but with eggcrate in place. I'm also using a diy auto top off. I just finished up my eggcrate frag rack as well.

Filling it with water is on my to do list just haven't got to it yet. In all honesty ill be suprised if the tank doesnt leak. I noticed that it was manufactured in 1982. I had thought about repeative rinsing and some sun for the tank. Never hurts to have a second opinion. Thanks for all your help

I recently purchased 2 sun sun 1300 gph powerheads from eBay as well. I payed $20 a piece for them and they have the magnetic base. They were shipped snail mail so I haven't got them yet. I was told that sun sun is made by the same company that makes koralia, but I don't know if this is true or not.

I disagree with ziggy. I have a 75 gpd unit with a pressure gauge and a dual tds meter. My water pressure is normally around 30 psi and it still produces 0 tds. It just takes longer to make water.

Does anyone know what type of algae this is, possible causes, and how to get rid of it. Its on my powerhead, protein skimmer, and my substrate. I have 6 mexican turbo snails and they will not touch the stuff. Like the title says it red and has a slimey feel to it. thanx in advance.

So a few days ago I removed the glass top and blocked the t5 fixture up off the tank about 4". The temps have lowered to about 79f-80f which I think is alot better but it's still no 78f. I'm only concerned with the heat right now. before I upgraded to the t5 lights I had the standard flouresant hoods so I always had low ph. I was always told better to have consistent ph than constantly changing ph. Also the cats have had frontline plus put on them (don't know if this matters)...

Can't really remove glass top. Have cats that like to get on top of the tank so egg crates won't work because their hair will fall right in. Would hanging the light about 6 inches above the tank with cooling fans help? With the glass top still in place.

I recently purchased a t5 54w x 2 light. The heat from this light has raised my water temp to about 83f-84f. Is there a way to lower my temp to 78f and keep it there without having to buy an expensive chiller?

No that just means if you let it run all day with the right water pressure (normally around 50psi) it will produce 75 gallons of water.
