I have a Biowheel and it is very quiet. Second what the poster above said about it getting quieter over time. Mine is whisper silent and I've had it for some time now.

Personally I wouldn't worry much about cycling for a Betta. Make sure it is the same temp as what he is in and set him loose. Very hardy fish, but not great with community fish. May have a hard time finding tank mates for him.

What about Bala's? One of the coolest "sharks" because they are the least aggressive of all. They get to be a good size so it's cool to watch them grow. Throw some other colorfull fish in with them and you've got a sweet tank. Your LFS may label them as semi-aggressive but I have had many over...
