I'm not into the whole co2 thing, and I'm planning on supplementing the otos diet with zuc. Three would be fine with the zuc 2 times a week, right?

I'm really having a tough time deciding between 3 otos or 1 clown pleco right now. The other tank mates will probably be a school of 6 harlequin rasboras and 3 endler/guppy hybirds (males). I also plan to have a few MTS and Ramshorn snails, and maybe one other thing.

I'd say the best choice is probably lillies! You can find so many varieties and different kinds. Check out pond plants, if you go to Ticker they have a ton of plants that would do awesome! Good luck :)

+1 to bert. Pool Filter Sand is saving my 10g planted tank right now from the awful oil-dri I tried first. Pool filter sand is cheap, appealing and easy to use! It comes in think granules and won't be easily disturbed like other sands! Good luck!

Although not many people use regular gravel on this site doesn't mean it isn't viable for plants. As long as your plants receive enough CO2 (I'm assuming you don't have a system, so it mostly comes from your fishes' waste), light, and micro/macro nutrients they should be fine. Bettas can definitely be great center piece fish in a tank like that, but how strong is your filtration? What about water current? I have two anacharis strands. They will grow in any light or conditions for me. I think they will be fine for you under the filter as long as they get some kind of light. Let me know how they do! If you can, post some pics :)

Unless you are worried about the heater burning up everything is fine. How long have you had the heater? Think about when you installed it...did it have to do the same thing then too? If it was fine that time it should be fine this time too :) I wouldn't worry! Good luck!

Turning them on couldn't effect the spectrum that a separate light fixture emits. The wattage would stay the same too. Try it and see what happens!
