Hello, I have a 5 gallon tank. (Not counting the decorations) I only have a betta in there. I wanted to put something else in there with him. I know bettas are aggressive but I heard you can put a bottom feeder in with them, potentially. I was wondering if a snail would be a good fit. Thanks!

I've heard snails are more... hearty I guess the word is. Is that true? Are they as sensitive to water changes and bad stuff in the water (ammonia, nitrates, etc...)?

Do the same "rules" apply to snails as fish? i.e., use a filter, 50% water change every so often, making sure the tank is cycled and all that other stuff?

Haha, would a tank full of snails be weird?? lol. It depends on how much heaters run... I have a thermometer in my tank and despite it being winter time right now my tank is always within the range indicated on the thermometer as being acceptable so I'm not sure I would need a heater?

Yeah that's true. My mom kept some in a vase with a plant at the top and some rocks at the bottom and they were fine... I guess that's why I thought they didn't need a filter..

I have a filter not a heater... how come in stores they keep the bettas in little containers then??? I'm confused now...

Really? I thought like you didn't need a filter or anything and they just kinda sit around haha. I mean I know they don't need that much water to live and no filter so I figured... you know...

No, there's just ghost shrimp in there right now. I'm pretty demoralized by all the problems that I've had with fish... I'm considering either giving up fish completely or just getting bettas... :<

I haven't had a chance to get a kit yet... I really don't have any money at the moment :\ but I'm going to get one ASAP.

Yeah, I tried to use the same temp, pretty sure I got it close at least... :p Yeah, head up tail down. Just dives straight down with its head facing the gravel, then back up with its head towards the top of the aquarium... I mean it looks like it's having fun at least, haha... but I don't like...

Haha, hopefully next time it'll work... Is there any significance in a fish moving up and down kinda fast? My fish seems to be doing that a lot, and right now I just put some food in there and it pretty much ignored the food and kept moving up and down.........

I tried sucking on the vacuum to make it work... wasn't the most pleasant considering I had the end of it in the bucket I was putting the water in before I tried it. Anyways, that didn't work... I dunno why I couldn't get it work... grrrrr. Moving something up and down sounds pretty simple... :\

haha, how about the water conditioner? in the cup of water before i put the water in or after i put the water in the aquarium?

Also, what's the trick with the vacuum, I'm have a problem right now haha... can't get it to suck :p

Quick Question again: I'm going to put the new water in a cup and then into the aquarium, do I put the conditioner in the cup of water before I put it in the aquarium, or in the aquarium after I put the water in?
