    crazy?

bigjim.. thanks... i figured the glass thickness was more about surface area than it was actual volume behind it. larger tank, loads are spread over larger area anyway.. so yeah, im thinking the 10mm glass be plenty big enough... i may even use the 55gals... ill see... the frame i have thought...

    crazy?

yeah 2 55s, would be 110 and no way putting 2 end to end would work, you would have a very bad weak spot bang in the middle... what i was talking about was the 75gals, using the long sides of 2 tanks, to make a 4x4. throwing away the end pieces.

    in wall tank..

not much progress as of yet... working too hard... both damsels did die though.. not sure why.. survived the move across the house but not too long ago, 1 died and the other a day later.. all water tests showed good. not sure what happened.. crabs and snails all seem fine but they probably...

    crazy?

hey again... ok... this may be a crazy idea... i dont know.. i was just browsing around and stumbled across a forum post, cant remember which forum it was now... but guy wanted to know if he could join 2 55gallon tanks together... i had thought of this, as i wanted an 8foot tank, for my balas...

Can't believe what stores will sell!

mine must be pretty good. all my freshwater fish are from petsmart and all were fine. Walmart on the other hand...... they should be banned from selling fish. they have no idea how to look after them and evertime go in there, they have 4 or 5 dead floating in each tank..

    wee little cracked tank

well wouldnt call myself an expert, only been doing it a short while. but taken a few apart now and never do unless really really have to. such a small tank, a piece of 6mm glass in the bottom should work... just make sure fits snug and is siliconed well. removing the top frame is not too bad...

    wee little cracked tank

ive dismantled and done a few tanks now, nothing that small, mostly 55gals, and i will say, replacing the glass is not an easy job. bottom piece, probably the easiest, in terms of getting it apart, but it still a lot of work. having to break the silicone between the glass joins is time consuming...

    Dream Tank

all these fishtank room ideas, gives me an idea. fiberglass the walls in the basement and fill it with water. by my calculations, that be just over 52,000 gallons... have one of those plexiglass tunnels like in sea life centers. that would be cool to have. wonder if id need a permit..

    Aquaridiots :P

lol its funny, we were just talking about this earlier. but i find it funny because way back when, when i was little, and had the 10gallon in the bedroom, i would always win those goldfish from the fair, you know, shoot the target win a fish. dont see them much now as it was pretty bad for the...

    Microbubbles

how low is the waterlevel, to the input on the pump? if the waterlevel gets too low, the pump can pull water from the surface, causing bubbles. also find sometimes ball valves can cause them, i have seen them on my smaller pump from the ball valve. but i know if the level in my sump lowers too...

    ro unit

hmmm you might be right now i think about it. may just been a softener. didnt have large cylinders etc. was a large box, almost like an air conditioner heat pump and then another next to it, which had salt in it... but yeah think it was a softener more i think about it. ah well.... i know at...

    Dream Tank

i would love a custom made, 15foot or so long, 5 foot wide, 3 foot tall tank, that is almost S shaped, rock background, gravel bed, and a large number of Bala Sharks, but i also want it to be flowing, from one side to the other. so probably wouldnt be ideal for them, but still, its a dream...

    ro unit

having an issue with brown algae in the SW tank. it went but now come back with attitude and taken over the tank. all levels seem to be within range but nitrates a little high. i think its the tap water. our local fish store doesnt sell RO water, so i think an RO unit is probably needed...

DIY glass hoods for a 55 FW?

i dont think they are actually rubber, more a plastic of some sorts. since the surface area is fairly small, i doubt it would offer much resistance really. if it was Saltwater id be more concerned, due to salt drying on the tracks, but with fresh i dont see it giving much of a problem. i have a...

    Pump question

i only said below, purely for sound and so forth. above have the same effect, i just found with my hole above the water, there was that constant, splashing sound which bugged me.. but will work just the same..

Sound proofing a cabinet with a canister filter in it

if its not vibration, try your local car stereo installer shop and see if they have any offcuts of dynamat. its what they use to soundproof cars and works pretty well.

    Pump question

if you havnt dont it already, drill a small hole in your return pipe, just below the normal water level. maybe a 1/8th drill bit. that way, if power goes out, the hole will allow air in and break the syphon back through the pump. simple and never fails unlike check valves. (well long as hole...

DIY glass hoods for a 55 FW?

go to lowes and look for some of the clear plastic/rubber cabinet door pads. about diameter of a dime, and about 1/8" thick. forget the sticky backs to them, instead, use a small blob of silicone to hold them on. that will raise the glass up and it wont stick. also help protect the glass if you...

DIY tank decor and misc questions

best way to be sure is to try and locate it along a wall, not sticking out into the room. i have 2 doing that but i had to add supports in the garage to support it. along the wall is the strongest point. if you can see under the floor, basement or something, see if can see which way the floor...

    Pump question

i love my quietone pump. it is actually very quiet and works either as submersible or inline, which is nice if heat is something you worry about, although doesnt seem to effect temp much as submersible for me. size depends on how high it has to pump the water and how much water your overflow can...

    Question about sump

it pretty easy as said, doesnt need to be complicated, or expensive as usually, just move your equipment you have in the main tank, to the sump. i use a 10gal tank for a sump on my 55gal. i went to lowes, they sell plexiglass exactly the right size to fit in the tank, if you want to make...
