anyone ever heard of a betta bed or shelf for the tank?

I don't have a betta myself but curiosity got the better of me and I did a Google search. It turned this up: WARNING: Zoo Med Betta Bed Leaf Hammock WARNING: Zoo Med Betta Bed Leaf Hammock - Aquarium Forum

Priming the Eheim Professional 3 Filters

Hi, I've been out of touch for a few days. Cmor....yes....sealed correctly, no leaks (water or air) , is level....everything perfect! Still took aged to prime. I see there are lots of articles on the WWW about difficulty priming these filters so it seems I am not alone. At least I got mine...

Priming the Eheim Professional 3 Filters

Hi all. I just bought an Eheim 2071 Professional 3 250 Filter. Priming is supposed to be really easy but I found that I had to pump the primer button for ages before the filter filled and then I had to carry on doing it once turned on in order to get the water to eventually start flowing. At no...

    Thoughts on Arcadia T5 Lights

Hi. I want to upgrade my lights. I don't have a huge amount to spend. I have a Juwel Vision 180 (that's 180 litres). Currently I just have one white and one actinic blue T5 in the Juwel light ballast. Each is 35w. Also using reflectors. I have a few soft corals that are doing well. What is the...

    REDICULOUS - Need Advice

What are you going to feed the Mandarin? Do you know they are really difficult to feed? Many keepers resort to live food to get them to eat and there is still no gurantee that that will work either. They have one of the highest starvation rates of all readily available display fish.

    ro/di issue?

I would start by checking that the water pressure on your water supply is high enough. I think most RO/DI units state the minimum requirement. I'm no expert....but as far as I know higher pressure is required at the "clean" end to force the purified water through than the waste water.

    How to clean a skimmer?

Hi....can somebody please advise me on how extensively to clean my skimmer? I have had it running for 7 months or so. All I clean is the collection cup which includes the riser tube up the middle where the foam creeps up and overflows into the cup. I also clean the pump & venturi. But I never...

No skimmate being produced. Is that OK?

Hi all. I have had my skimmer working fine for the last 7 or so months (when I set up my first marine tank). Up until a few days ago it produced dark, dirty skimate as I expected it would. But the last few days it is completely clear. I cleaned the pump and cup (loath to clean the skimmer barrel...

    Can anyone ID this algae

Hi all. Does anyone know if this is good or bad? I have about 6 or 7 clumps appearing. It does not seem to grow very quickly but I am always dubious about anything that you get for nothing...it usually turns out to be unwanted. thanks for any help in advance. Rick

Where are these bubbles comming from?

Hi Eyring & Bigjim. Thanks for your replies. I don't think either explain my problem. Eyering...as I said, it is a new powerhead (including the impeller). The old one did the same thing. So unless the design of the impeller is causing the bubbles to form then it can't be the cause otherwise...

Where are these bubbles comming from?

Hi all....does anyone have any ideas about this? I have run out of ideas. I have a Juwel 180 litre tank with the built in filter box. I use this as a chemical filter. As media I have 3 course blue sponges which I was every week to avoid them going biological, some phosphate remover in filter...

    Bristle Worms

Amazing how opinions differ: Bimble bee snails: "Bumble bee snails are an ideal addition to the cleaning crew for any tank as they will eat any uneaten food, decaying matter and most algae species"......."burrows into your sand bed, consumes sand-dwelling worms, and helps aerate your...

    Bristle Worms

I've read that Bumble Bee snails take care of them too. I have two of these snails and they are really attractive but not seen all that often.

What to do with this crab

Hi. I have captured a small crab using my own variation on the 'tilted glass' method (so thanks to all those who described that...it was very useful). I'll post a pic later in the Identification section so someone can try to ID it for me. Meanwhile what to do with it? I have it in a large jar of...

    Maze coral bleaching...help please

Thanks Mike. I do use reflectors already. What I might do as a future project is build a frame from plywood that will sit on the rim at the top of the tank. This is where the Juwel lid (flap set) currently rests and the light bar hangs). Then I'll build a rim to hold the existing flap set and...

    Maze coral bleaching...help please

Thanks for responding guys. That link was very informative Mike. It is making a bit more sense now. As a beginner I do get a bit overwhelmed 'cos you find such different advise depending on the source. I get your point about comparing like with like Kurt...Picollo's system has a much smaller...

    Maze coral bleaching...help please

Thanks for your advice guys. I will consider building a new canopy which can incorporate a few more bars. I do however have to say I find it all rather confusing. Firstly my LFS said Maze would be fine given my lighting and recommended putting it on the bottom. Secondly I refer you to a post...

    Maze coral bleaching...help please

Hi. I am worried that my maze coral is not happy. I have had it for about 6 - 8 weeks. It appears to have started bleaching around some of the edges. This started about 2 a week or 10 days ago. My initial reaction is that my lighting is not strong enough. Yesterday I moved the coral to a...
