Not necessarily. 30w of inc. will put out less light than 16 watts of ccfl (~390 lumens compared to ~432 lumens of ccfl).
Now I dont know about your area but in mine electricity costs about 11 cents per kilowatt hour. Now lets say you ran your lights for 15 hours in a day.
First we...
Exactly! Some people go by the whole watts per gallon rule but that to me is very misleading. Just like when dealing with an indoor garden, you deal not with wattage per ft2 but rather LUMENS per ft2. Same thing I would think applies to a planted tank. Rather than going by how many watts per...
But yeah you can see the growth results on my other thread (what kind of bulb is this?). I got pics of the lily in that thread to. Also I have another mystery bulb that I need help identifying! Pics are all in the aforementioned thread.
Well I am messin with the homebrew lighting cause Im a poor bastard! I want to get a larger tank but cant afford it right now, I just have a measley 10gal and I am gonna have to upgrade cause between the growth of my fish and these plants its already to small of a tank!
But when I first...
Here are the rest of the plants. This coming tuesday will be the one month mark since I dropped the bulbs in.
Here are the two aponogetons:

And here is a closeup of the lily, which has now grown two roots directly down into the rocks and is beginning to anchor...
Ok, I managed to get some quick pics in before the batteries went completely dead. Anyways, the bulb in question is the smaller lumpy one in the pic below. The larger smoother bulb was the Nymphaea Rubra.
Ok now here is a pic of the nymphaea when it was still sprouting for comparison...
Ok I have yet another "what kind of bulb is this" question. Actually if you look at some of the bigger bulbs in my first pics you'll see that there are the rubra's which are smooth but there is that odd one that is all lumpy and looks like a turd.
Well I germinated it later than the others and...
From what I understand nymphaea's are actually water lilly's. They are sometimes referred to as a water lotus but they are not true lotuses. Just look up Nymphaea Sp. on google.
I put mine in two weeks ago and it sprouted immediately. I have decent lighting but no fertilization or CO2, other...
Haha yeah! Like when you eat a watermelon seed and you get a watermelon in your stomach lol.
Anyways, here are some pics. Today is the 2 week mark since the bulbs were first introduced into the tank. Its only been since saturday that I retrofitted the laptop ccfl into my lid and man have...
Yeah enough of the natural plants, Im having too much fun from these bulbs. The only other thing I noticed around these ponds is they got these waterfalls set up and there is nice healthy hairy green algae growth on the rocks in these areas. I thought about scraping some off and putting it into...
Wow. Tuesday will be the two week mark since i added the bulbs to my tank. Im gonna tell you right now I have the two main aponogetons that sprouted and man have they taken off! One started off just growing leaves, but the other started off flowering. But I heard once they flower they hit a...
