Large white blemish on catfish (pictures)

Phew, that is a relief. In doing a little bit more research, I wonder if he may have been burned by the heater? I guess sometimes they could be hanging out to close them and get torched that way. Thanks for the thoughts, I appreciate it, I am very glad it does not appear to be some sort of...

Large white blemish on catfish (pictures)

I have a fairly young featherfin catfish (upside-down catfish, squeaker catfish, synodontis eupterus) that has developed a white spot on him. The fish has no other spots nor signs of being ill. No other fish in the tank show any signs of being ill, either. As of now, temperature is at 79. I...

    Fish Spawning!? Need Advice, Quick!

Interesting. Well, from all sources, it seems that this may become a regular occurence, so I'll update if anything happens again.

    Fish Spawning!? Need Advice, Quick!

I'll have to try and get better shots if/when this happens again. I wish I had seen what happened to the eggs. I guess it's safe to assume they were never fertilized and that the parents ate them.

    Fish Spawning!? Need Advice, Quick!

Ok, at some point during the day, all of the eggs were eaten. I assume it was the parents. Saga over...until they do this again.

    Fish Spawning!? Need Advice, Quick!

OK, I am in 'let nature take its course' mode. I'll update as needed. As of this evening (second full day of egg observation), the parents still feerishly defend their eggs and have yet to eat any.

    Fish Spawning!? Need Advice, Quick!

I was going to add this to my journal thread, but decided to put it into a new topic... 55 Gallon, lightly planted Aquaclear 70 filter, undergravel filter with 2 powerheads 1 Gold Severum 1 green Severum 1 Kissing Gourami 1 Featherfin Catfish (synodontis eupterus) 1 nerite snail...

Tiger Barbs and Cichlids in 55g new tank

I don't personally have tiger barbs with my cichlids, but I was told by my LFS that larger cichlids, once full grown, could devour the smaller barbs. Terrors and devils are definitely at the far end of the aggressive side. One final thought, as I also have a 55 gallon; I too wanted my tank...

What kind of catfish too get?

If you have the capacity for a Synodontis Eupterus (aka upside-down catfish, aka featherfin catfish, aka squeaker catfish), get one! They do get to be about 8 inches, but are completely peaceful and are great to watch. They also do an awesome job at cleaning up spare food.

    Undergravel filter trays/power heads

So let me make sure I understand this correctly: my Aquaclear 70 has adequate filtration for my 55 gallon tank. The undergravel trays and attached uptake tubes and powerheads don't filter anything, per se. What the powerheads actually do is suck water up through the tubes and from the...

Best way to treat internal parasite?

Well, I purchased Jungle's internal parasite guard with praziquantel. I did the first dose on the tank and will add the second dose in 2 day, as the instructions say. Unfortunately, the electric blue is gone. I had been checking on him all evening and he eventually settled on his side with...

    Undergravel filter trays/power heads

Well, I do have a hang-on power filter in addition to the UG. It's an Aquaclear 70 and I have a 55 gallon tank. The lfs highly recommended the UG trays and powerheads to increase water circulation?

    Undergravel filter trays/power heads

I'm looking for opinions on undergravel trays and powerheads for a freshwater tank. I was highly suggested them at my lfs, so being a begineer I thought that they were a must. The more I've learned, I've seen a lot of opinions that say they're at best a useless feature & have the potential to...

Best way to treat internal parasite?

Thanks for some advice, I truly appreciate it. I'll make sure to update on the jack's status in this thread as well as my log thread in the main FW forum. Right now the jack's just sitting on the bow of the ship, not moving much... I'd hate to lose it, such a great looking fish.

Best way to treat internal parasite?

Ok, thanks. Quick question about Jungle's and Prazipro: Is it safe to put this in the tank with the other fish that are not ill? I'm just worried I'm going to be bombarding the tank with different chemicals.

Best way to treat internal parasite?

Thanks for the suggestions. So is the MelaFix treatment completely worthless? I did the first dose and removed the carbon filter as the directions suggested. I read a little bit about the anti-parasite food, but how do I get a sick fish that will not swallow food to eat medical food? Plus...

Best way to treat internal parasite?

Well, I went to a local petsmart since my lfs is too far away and is closed. I was told to use Mela-Fix. I had something that specifically treats internal/external parasites, but was told Mela-Fix is the best product for this issue. The bottle says nothing about parasites, it says it treats...

I posted this message in the unhealthy fish section as well, just want to try to get as much advice as possible. I have an electric blue jack dempsey that I believe is suffering from an internal parasite. He has been denying food that he would normally eat, like flakes and sinking or...

Best way to treat internal parasite?

I have an electric blue jack dempsey that I believe is suffering from an internal parasite. He has been denying food that he would normally eat, like flakes and sinking or floating pellets. He would consume bloodworms, but would eventually make gagging motions before regurgitating it. His...

Logging my 55 Gallon Aquarium (pictures)

I can almost understand the picky-eating part. What I guess is more troublesome is that when he grabs a bloodworm, he'll throw it back up and sometimes try to eat it again and other times just let it float away.

Logging my 55 Gallon Aquarium (pictures)

I didn't think of that. I only feed the freeze-dried bloodworms daily because I've read that they're no where near as nutritious as the frozen bloodworms. I've also heard that with semi-aggressive fish it would benefit to feed once or twice a day to prevent some hostilities. However, I've also...

Logging my 55 Gallon Aquarium (pictures)

I guess the explanation was sort of buried in the last post on page 1... Long story short, he used to eat an assortment of different foods (flakes, sinking pellets, floating pellets) but now he will only eat freeze-dried or frozen bloodworms. I feed the frozen once a week as a treat and a...
