Need advice on used 46g bowfront

Epilogue: I ended up JB welding the cracks in the frame and clamped them together using a pair of ratcheting tie-down straps. Removed the straps after 36 hours and sanded off the excess JB weld. Tank has been up and running for a month now with no leaks and no signs of separation at the...

    stand modification?

Building a box inside the stand is a good idea. I did something similar to reinforce an old sofa table to hold my 46g bowfront.

    broken center brace

Here's a thread from Reef Central where a guy deliberately cut his center brace out and replaced it with acrylic (scroll down a bit to get to the pics): http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1346261 HTH!

    stand modification?

Are the corners 2 x 4's? If so you are probably ok removing the center brace as long as a piece of dimensional lumber runs across the top and bottom. A pic might be helpful though...

    New Goldfish Staying Near Bottom

UPDATE 12/29: Well... my prazi won't be here until the 4th. Fortunately, OJ has been spending less time in his corner since I've dropped the lighting from 8 to 2 hours/day. When he does come out, he's rooting in the gravel and acting very normal (aside from the light aversion). He's a bit...

    New Goldfish Staying Near Bottom

From above: omega one medium sinking pellets. Based on some advice I got over at Koko's GF, I've salted the tank to .1% and have ordered some hikari prazipro. They are of the opinion that a mild case of gill flukes is likely to blame since OJ was fine for well over a week before he started...

    New Goldfish Staying Near Bottom

Well yesterday evening OJ was swimming about with a 5-6" poo streamer. Going to two full days of feeding peas to see if that will clear up the constipation.

New dp with possible internal Parasites

Try jiggling a worm in front of your sick DP to get its attention. You can also try soaking the worms in fresh, pressed garlic with the meds... it helps mask the taste/scent of the meds.

    New Goldfish Staying Near Bottom

Tank: 46g bowfront up for 2 weeks. Upgraded from a fully cycled 29g. Filters, media, substrate, decorations all transferred from the 29g. The 29 had been up for 16 months. Filters: 3 x Tetra Whisper in-tank, 145 gph each. One is new, added during upgrade, two were brought over from the...

    Interesting Oranda Goldfish Behavior

Yes, they are all young... My original pair are 4 and 5 inches nose to tail. New guy is about 3 in. I wasn't concerned about their behavior... I just found it curious. The largest one actually stayed so close to the new guy it looked like he was trying to side hug him with his fin. I was...

    Interesting Oranda Goldfish Behavior

So about 6 weeks ago I scored a 46g bowfront off of Craigslist for $50 to move my two Orandas into... with an eye to adding a third. So today I finally added the third to the tank. Once I put him into the tank, my other two (who normally are all over the tank sifting gravel) huddled up around...

    is this Chinese or siamese??

+1 on that being a CAE. I ended up with one... It was sold to me as an SAE. It did a VERY good job on algae, but he was an aggressive lil bugger and chased my neons, red eye tetras and danios incessantly. Then fish started dying off... Most of my neons and a few of my danios. I gave him to...

Need advice on used 46g bowfront

I'm less concerned about the support brace/strap than I am about the cracks on the frame corners. FWIW, it's been full for well over 8 hours and no leaks. I'm draining it now and bringing it inside... supposed to freeze here tonite and I doubt that would leaving it out is a good idea.

ac filters self prime if power goes out?

To my recollection, my AC 50 always has had to be primed after unplugging / power failure.

Need advice on used 46g bowfront

I scored a 46g bowfront with glass top and light off of craigslist for $50. I'm leak testing it today. The PO had it on a sun porch for some period of time and the support brace is slightly warped. I also noticed that the plastic frame on the bottom right front of the tank is cracked at the...

    Oranda Poop Query

I just want to be clear, the pellets sink just fine. The sole reason I've been soaking is due to the reason set forth above. Poops alternate btw normal and clear/hollow.

    Oranda Poop Query

Well, I did state in the OP that I was feeding them omega one medium sinking pellets... Only reason why I've soaked them is that I've read in several places that even sinking pellets swell a wee bit and it's better for that to happen before being eaten. Is this incorrect? Definitely will...

    Oranda Poop Query

About three weeks ago I picked up two Orandas for my 29g tank. They are the sole inhabitants and are about 4" in length including fins. Water parameters are 0 ammonia / 0 nitrite and 5-10 nitrate. One of them (a bronze named "The Digger" due to his quickly established penchant for digging in...

Using an Aqueon Water Changer to refill a tank?

I've adopted the "dose prime for the amount of water being replaced approach." When I've dosed for the entire volume of the tank my water gets sudsy for several days.

Using an Aqueon Water Changer to refill a tank?

    Genuine fish lover needs advice!

Interestingly enough, 17 years ago when I first bought that 4.5 gallon tank (when there was no www yet). I put a single betta in there on the advice of a now defunct LFS. That single betta lived for nearly 4 years. Do your betta a favor and return the rest of those fish. If you don't, I have...

    Genuine fish lover needs advice!

My first tank was a 4.5 gallon. I put it together, put in the water, turned it on, and 24 hours later added 3 guppies. Within 7 days 2 of the guppies were dead, the other one died 2weeks later. The sad part is that after the first deaths, I read several posts here at AA. I determined that...
