I'd try some garlic attractant, it's worked well for me in the past

    Re-Aquascaping?

Is this possible? My tank has been established for a couple of years now and I'm kinda unhappy with my live rock layout. It doesn't promote good flow and it takes a lot of organics. Can I move my rock around or would this stress my fish to no end?

    Algae

Currently battling cyano. After a long fight, I just used Chemi Clean and it has killed 90% of it

    What is this,

The dreaded aiptasia....I still have to kill all of them in my tank every few months. While they aren't harmful, they can overwhelm a tank easily. Use aiptasia x

    Critter ID please!!

Yeah it's hard to tell with all the blue light, if you could get a photo in white light, it would be easier to identify.

    Cyanobacteria Bloom

Ok thanks guys, I'll just do some live rock rubble instead! Now it's time to build a sump!

    Cyanobacteria Bloom

Thanks for the help guys, I think a 20 gallon would be sufficient. I want to have a bio ball section where the water enters the sump, a protein skimmer section, and of course the return pump. I do not think I would do macro algae since I'll be gone to college again in a few months, and it would...

    Cyanobacteria Bloom

Ok where would you get those? Know of a good online store?

    Stocking ideas?

I love my flame hawkfish, he's very personable...they are prone to eating hermit crabs though....

    Cyanobacteria Bloom

Ok, I've watched a few youtube videos and I think that I understand it all for the most part. What size of tank would be best for a 40 gallon tank? And can you make an overflow box, or would it be better to buy one?

    Cyanobacteria Bloom

I have a 10 gallon tank...would that be sufficient? I'm just still semi confused as to how a sump works and how to incorporate a sump in my existing tank. If it isn't hard, I would love to do it. Anyone have any advice?

    Cyanobacteria Bloom

Anyone know of a good HOB skimmer? I had this one Reef Octopus BH 100 Hang on Back Protein Skimmer - AquaCave.com But it broke and leaked about 10 gallons of water on the floor. I would have to have an HOB skimmer since I do not have a sump

    Cyanobacteria Bloom

Ok so I just got back from college today, and my tank looks like this...cyanobacteria have carpeted the whole tank. My mom has been taking care of it.... She says she has not been feeding that much, I trust her on that. She has also been reducing the lighting but none of this has worked. We use...

What is this pink stuff showing up

Looks like coraline algae. Good stuff and very pretty. Eventually will cover all your rocks like mine in the photo

not new news, but still saddening.

All it takes is education. Intelligence is what sets the human race apart from all other living things. We have the ability to think, plan, and carry out actions that benefit us. Animals on the reef can't "think" and save themselves. We have put a whole lot of species in grave danger and those...

not new news, but still saddening.

If that definition was true than every living organism would be a parasite since no life is completely self sufficient. Even plants require nutrients from soil, making them not self sufficient. So you would be implying that life in itself is parasitic, a plague on the earth. Id have to disagree...

Hitchhiker is making my water cloudy!!!!!

Maybe so! Such weird behavior I wish he'd stop he's dirtying my tank

Hitchhiker is making my water cloudy!!!!!

Well I found the culprit...it is my dottyback! I watched him this morning grab big mouthfuls of sand and then spit them out! Why is he digging? I didn't think he was a digging species

Hitchhiker is making my water cloudy!!!!!

Thinking it might be a worm of some sort. It doesn't seem very big and I feel I would have been able to see a mantis shrimp. Plus the burrow entrance is literally where my dottyback lives and I think he would chase off any shrimps

Hitchhiker is making my water cloudy!!!!!

Hmm well his tunnel is right next to where my diadem dottyback lives, and he is an incredibly aggressive fish. I would think that he wouldn't like a shrimp being near him, as he will attack and rip up bristleworms that occasionally come out

Hitchhiker is making my water cloudy!!!!!

Nope no clicking noises. That rules out a pistol shrimp right?

    Coraline algae

Excellent point greenmaster. Various species probably do require different parameters/conditions
