    Moving a 40 Gal Reef

I just moved from Whitney, Texas to Mesa, Arizona. Decided to transport my established reef. Here is the way it was accomplished. Emptied the tank except for about two inches of water. Left the substrate. Put the rock in two tubs covered in seawater. They went in the Penske truck. Three...

    Moving a 40 gal reef

Thanks to everyone that replied. Based on recommendations I think I will break down the tank. Separate the fish and corals. Aerate them with a 12 volt pump. Cover the rock in water. I should be able to move the tubs into the motel for the overnight. I will get a friend to mix water for me...

    Moving a 40 gal reef

Thanks guys. Looks like I should break down the tank. Aerate the fish in a tub. I can power that from the 12 volt in the Jeep. Cover the live rock with water. Cover the coral as well. Would the coral be OK without aeration? It will take four days total to make the trip and reset the tank.

    Moving a 40 gal reef

My wife and I are relocating from central Texas to Arizona. We have a well established reef with fish/anemone and corals. Can it be moved that far safely? Any suggestions? I think we should just sell it here and start over. She says. No. She calls them the "salty gang" and doesn't want to...

First I want to thank you guys that have sent me welcome to AA. And the ones that have given advice to me the short time I have been here. My reef is doing well. Added red mushroom coral to it Saturday. Has a cpr refurium/protein skimmer. Using "purpleup" on advice by LFS. I think I need a...

    New Reef

Thanks Charlotte. Good advice. Tank is coming along. Added my first coral yesterday. Now when friends come by they head to the tank first. The Maroon Clown is clearly the "BOSS" of the tank.

    Who are these guys?

I don't think anyone is going to mess with the Maroon Clown that much. He and the Blue Velvet seem to be buds. Thanks for the heads up.

    New Reef

Thanks guys. You make one feel welcome. I have been keeping freshwater fish on and off for years. But salt? REEF? Good Hawk. I don't know enough yet to ask a reasonable question. LOL. But I will get there.

    Who are these guys?

We moved it in my Prius. Fish were put in a bucket of water from the aquarium. Rock was put in 5 gallon buckets with water from the aquarium. Substrate was washed and washed until clean. Tank was scrubbed clean. As much water as possible was saved. New saltwater added. Red slime chemical...

    Who are these guys?

Thanks Ray. They have been together for a while. The Maroon Clown chases the small Damsel if he gets close to the Anemone. Think I could add a Yellow Tang?
