Better way to get freshwater upto tempreture?

How about trying this idea? large bucket filled with tap water cheap powerhead with a long tube pyrex kettle (like the ones used to brew coffee) I use a power head to do water changes to draw the water out quickly ,especially since one of my aquariums is on the floor. I also use it to add...

    20 gal long planted?

Crypts, and moss are good. Sagittarria Subulata is what I think I have or it may be Mondo grass. Hard to identify from pictures but it is one of the two. I would really like to know because this is the easiest aquatic plant that I have taken care of. It actually has been growing with bare...

    Anyone have dart frogs?

Forgive my ignorance, but are dart frogs poison? I have watched nature programs and that look similar to those I have seen. It looks like you have a nice habitat for her. Is she in a Terrarium?

    20 Gallon light Recommendations

The 15 watts should be enough provided you keep the light on for at least 8 hours a day for your type of plants. Java moss could be kept in really low light. Most of the recommendations that we read regarding intensive lighting are for those Dutch type aquascapes. For a low tech, a little less...

    Dwarf Puffer tank build thread

Thanks for the info. Right now I have mainly small fish, so I am looking for something bigger. Puffers are a good size. Water quality is easier to deal with in a non a heavily planted aquarium for me. If you know what you are doing though, it shouldn't make much of a difference. Excessive...

    feeding african clawed frogs

They don't seem to be picky eaters. small (small enough to swallow whole) dried krill and worms are good choices. Drop a few krill in on one day and 1 cube of frozen worms a day or two later. The important thing is to make sure they are eating and that other fish don't grab all the food before...

    Dwarf Puffer tank build thread

Puffers are seriously aggressive but very active if you like swimmers. I have easy access to puffers but thought they might disrupt the planted set up. Are they suitable for a planted aquarium?

    A new type of Paludarium

Thanks! If you have any questions, just ask and I will try to answer as best I can. I have expressed each type of structure as a formula. Type 1WM-2LS: One part water in the middle and two parts land on each side Type 1WF-1LB: One part water in the front and one part land in the back...

Are really old bricks safe to use?

Might be wise to avoid that, especially since you metioned the origin of those bricks. Boiling the bricks might be an option but that probably wont have an affect on the ph in the event bricks might influence ph levels.

    A new type of Paludarium

Thanks for the nice replies! Here is another that I made. It is suppose to be a scaled western river type setting. There are black kuhlii, and what look like silver needle fish but not sure since they are so small.

    Kuhli Loaches

Kuhlii is one of my favorites. Very cute in my opinion. Very peaceful and thats a fact. However, these are mainly bottom dwellers that feel more comfortable slithering into small spaces. Basicly they are timid and skidish so they hide a lot. When I do have an opportunity to see them swim around...

    African Dwarf Frog

This might give you some ideas. Had two frogs in an 30 gallon low-tech planted aquarium. The largest fish was a common pleco about 3 inches. Also, had rainbow tetra, and the rest you could see from the images. Peaceful community, I must say. Fish that are the size of neons aren't recommended...

    dwarf aquatic frog

Frogs not eating!this is odd. Probably sick to begin with. Was your aquarium planted and did the frogs have hiding places? They might have been stressed.

    Substrate Depth Planted vs. Non-Planted

Two inches of that expensive stuff is enough. If you have many stem plants, you don't even need that much. It doesn't have to be leveled either. Deeper for areas that are for rooted plants. I use ADA and never did more than 2 inches.

    A new type of Paludarium

New to this site. Got something you might find unique. It is a Terrestrial and Aquatic variation of a Paludarium that I call a Tequarrium. The heavily planted one is a biotope type that is fully aquatic and fully terrestrial. The other is a scaled scape that I established my own method to...
