Mandarin Crabs and Land Hermit Crabs: Will They Get Along?

I've been doing some research on land hermit crabs since I've been planning to keep a trio in a 10 gallon tank, I came across an article about mandarin crabs. Mandarin crabs are terrestrial crustaceans, like the land hermit crab, that rely on humidity and water dishes in order to breath in...

Ideal number of crabs in a 10 gallon tank?

I'm aware that male mangrove crabs are generally aggressive and territorial and, in a 10 gallon tank, it is recommended only to keep one or two of them. Does this mean I can keep two males and perhaps also five females without the worry of serious fights breaking out amongst them? Thanks in...

    Help! White Worms of DOOM!

Horsehairs are tapeworms and live inside its host. The worms in my tank are different. They appear to cling on the surface of its host and when put in a solution with a high concentration of salt, they detach themselves, coil up then die. I have heard of many people adding aquarium salt in...

    Help! White Worms of DOOM!

Planarians are generally non-parasitic flatworms but they are closely related to parasitic worms called 'flukes'. I have realized that my shrimp tank is infested with both of them! I have just noticed that the ones clinging on the glass glide smoothly while the ones clinging on the shrimp inch...

    Help! White Worms of DOOM!

I've kept some pale-blue freshwater shrimp (don't know what kind) for some time now and ever-since I bought them, they came along with strange white worms clinging onto their bodies. I only noticed the worms after a few days of keeping the shrimp after one of them died with a bunch of them...

I have an aquarium flower crab! Err... What now?

Thanks, Jason. I just hope I can find out more about them as soon as I need to. Would be a shame if it wouldn't live a full life of 3-4 years.

I have an aquarium flower crab! Err... What now?

Hello all! I have kept a flower crab (Sesarmops intermedium) for more than two weeks now. Problem is, I don't know exactly how to take care of it. I have been keeping it the same way you keep red clawed crabs in terms of diet and water salinity. It staying this alive for this long...

    Red clawed crab?

Thanks! One problem though: I haven't found any info on how to care for them. Well that problem is for another thread. >.0

    Red clawed crab?

Oh and also it is worth mentioning there are fine leg hairs that are found on both my crab and the pics of the crabs above.

    Red clawed crab?

Finally found what kind of crab I have! Turns out it is a flower crab (Sesarmops Intermedium). The color of its claws and the shape of its carapace totally fits the profile. Well unless anyone thinks otherwise?

    Hibernating fiddler crabs?

Just bought a heat pad two days ago, and a pair of aquarium filters for my freshwater shrimp and my alien mangrove crab. The following day after the heat pad's installation, it began to show results! The fiddler (Apparently the type of fiddler I have is called a "watermelon crab". May be...

    Hibernating fiddler crabs?

Ah I see. I'll stick to the heat pad then. =P Thanks for answering my questions, Adeeb. ^^

    Hibernating fiddler crabs?

Isn't 33cm x 21cm x 19cm more than 10 gallons? Outside the aquarium, it is about 20 degrees celsius so I can imagine it is below that temperature in the tank. Burn 'em? Literally? 0.o Oh and one more question. =P Would a study light do as an alternative heat source?

    Hibernating fiddler crabs?

The dimentions are 33 cm x 21cm x 19cm. Same with my unidentified mangrove crab. Speaking of heat lamps, would I need one for the mangrove crab too? He seems to do fine without it, but I don't exactly know how a "fine crab" is. It's very costly to ship from here to the states. Also the...

    Hibernating fiddler crabs?

40% land and the rest water. Only realized my mistake now. =/ Should it be 90% land and 10 percent water? Oh I didn't realize that. =P Good luck with your fiddlers!

    Hibernating fiddler crabs?

@Big Jim - Unfortunately, Crab-B has died just recently. Must have been the cold. Pity I didn't get to deal with the problem when I could have. I should get a heat pad immediately and deeper sand perhaps. @Adeebm - I actually provided the two fiddlers with two equally-sized "islands" with a...

Crab-B enjoying the cold water. Seriously... he couldn't be short on land.

Here are Crab-B's attempts to evict Crab-A's from his own home.

    Hibernating fiddler crabs?

More help needed on crabs! This time, the odd-looking fiddler crab. I have a pair of male fiddler crabs. Once refuses to leave its burrow (let's call him Crab-A to avoid confusion =P), the other refuses do build his own (Crab-B). The Crab-B either tries to steal Crab-A's burrow or just basks...

    Red clawed crab?

Thanks! IDing them is a pain, but it can help me raise my crab in optimum conditions. I was planning to breed it, but I'm afraid it may not be a native specie to set free in the wild. Last thing I want is an invasion of alien crabs destroying an ecosystem. 0.o I noticed you keep three...

Dr. Zoidberg isn't as tame as he looks in the photos. He scuttles like a speeding bullet!

    Red clawed crab?

@Cichchick79 - Most definitely not a fiddler and most definitely not a female. You can tell by checking the width of the crab's tucked tail. If the crab's tail is narrow, it is a male. If the crab's tail is broad, it is a female. About your fiddlers, some screenshots can help identify it. :D...

    Red clawed crab?

Oh pfft. I meant 3 inches. Anyways, that also counts the leg-span. The carapace itself is 1 inch lengthwise.

    Red clawed crab?

Hello, all! Long time reader, first time poster. I've purchased this brown, 3-inch-long crab. It was possibly kept in freshwater conditions (shopkeeper couldn't understand a word of English) like most crabs in the pet trade. Problem is, I'm no longer sure what kind of crab it is! It looks...
