    Water Change Question

So it's safe to "pre dose" the aquarium before adding straight tap water? Sounds like it would be a lot easier than carrying buckets, but I want my fish to be safe. Thanks for such a speedy reply! Deb

    Water Change Question

OK, this is probably a really dumb question, but I don't want to put my fish in danger. I have a fairly new (cycled) 29 gal aquarium and am using tap water. To do water changes, I've been filling a jug with water and adding anti chlorine/chloramine drops to the jug before adding it to my tank...

    Cleaning an Empty Aquarium

I am setting up my 29 gal tank after it's been empty for the past two years-my grand daughters "took care" of my fish while I was on vacation :) I cleaned everything well before I put it away but feel like it all should be cleaned again before setting it back up. The filters have been in a...

    Water Chemistry Questions

Actually, the "LFS" just closed it's doors-though it has been there with various owners for many years. She usually had a nice selection of fish, but was mostly a bird/snake person. Good point-I can't imagine that she ever used anything but tap water. Maybe I'll go on a plant shopping trip...

    Water Chemistry Questions

The nitrates are my fault-feeding my one fish too much and not frequent enough water changes. Right now I have a fairly coarse aquarium gravel on the bottom. I had a large sandstone rock (bought at an aquarium store) so I'm sure that could have leached into the water a bit-it's been out for...

    Water Chemistry Questions

I spent the weekend reading up on water chemistry. My tapwater is very hard and full of "stuff" so I decided several years ago to start using reverse osmosis water from the Culligan machine at my local Walmart store. This morning, I did several tests on my water using both a test kit and some...

Time to "Renovate" my tank :)

I wondered about that . . . .is there an freshwater, under water dwelling crab? I think the grandkids would get a kick out of them, but I was wondering how they would do with the Sidthimunkis anyway (and I'll be paying a lot for the Sidths, so they automatically win!) Thanks for your great...

Time to "Renovate" my tank :)

I won't worry about the snails-the Sidthimunkis will be small when I get them, and hopefully by the time the get big enough to do any damage to the snails they'll all be used to each other. It'll work out one way or another :) I was thinking of some little Fiddler Crabs to help keep my tank...

Time to "Renovate" my tank :)

The Dwarf Chain Loaches (Sidthimunki) look very similar to the Yoyo loaches (only smaller)-very "cute". The one angel won't be "lonely"? I think I've read that they like to be in groups with other Angels? One other question that comes to mind is about little crabs and Nerite snails-I know the...

Time to "Renovate" my tank :)

Wow, you guys are making me do my homework:) I'll check around for the sidthmunki (actually, I think I would buy them just so I could say their name-sounds like something out of Star Wars . . .) All suggestions are very much appreciated-I want to make as few mistakes as possible! Thanks! Deb

Time to "Renovate" my tank :)

Those Von Rio Tetras are gorgeous-they would probably be perfect to set off the Angelfish- Thanks again, Jim :)

Time to "Renovate" my tank :)

Thanks Jim :) The Yoyo loaches look like a great choice . . .can you recommend something with a little color that would go with the Angels instead of the Gouramis?

Time to "Renovate" my tank :)

Hi! I have a 26 gal tank (24x15x20in deep-Fluval 205 filter system and an all-glass hood with a 65w 50/50 compact fluorescent bulb-the bulb is new since yesterday) that we've had for years. For the last 5 years we've had a school of angelfish-started out with 6 babies and now we're down to one...
