    Popeye Disease

I've had two fish die, and a third, with popeye disease. all three fish were/are female congo tetras. I quarantined the sole survivor and used maracyn two. I dont understand why my fish are dying from popeye. and why only the female congos? my water quality is great. two filters, only 60%...

    Any one own congo tetras?

yep it's cycled. all levels are good. i even tested water right before putting them in for peace of mind. and it's a 50 gal tank. its only tank mates are eight gold pristella tetras, so they basically have the whole tank to themselves.

    Any one own congo tetras?

well the first day i got them, i did not feed. today i fed (flakes) and the females ate a little bit, not much. but the two males did not eat anything. the females will swim around a little with the light on too, but the males won't. the two males also get really freaked out when someone gets...

    Any one own congo tetras?

I just recently purchased some congos. Five females, and two huge beautiful males. I will be buying one more male, to make a total of eight. If you own congos, or have ever owned them, I'd like to ask a few questions. Do the males school with the females? or do they always stay seperate from...

How do I know when my tank is cycled?

I suggest getting the API master test kit. Petco and petsmart use the quick dip sticks, not the liquid test. I dunno how far you are, but it seems your not close to done though. Check out the fishless cycle thread here. It's on the top of this forum. You'll know your done, when your nitrites are...

    Fishless Cycle, Nitrate problem

Okay, so I finished my fishless cycle, and added eight gold pristella tetras (five one day, three the next). I have a 50 gallon tank btw: My cycle took slightly over 3 weeks (I did have a used fluval with some of the old ceramic rings still). I followed the fishless cycle thread we have here...

Looking for cycling reassurance.... or advice!

from my experience that does seem a little odd, not seeing any nitrites yet. but like others said, just be patient. theyll come. I am also cycling my tank as well. My ammonia has also been dropping every day (to zero). My problem is the opposite to yours though. I always get Nitrite readings...

    Help! Fish Dying!!!

hey mutt. check out the blue ram, and the bolivian ram. both get only three inches, and are good in community's. I'm going to be buying a couple of those soon, after my tank is done cycling. Not sure which kind I want though. They both look great, and they're both cichlids :)

Having a couple of cichlids in a non-cichlid tank

ok, so you'd add the rams and schoolers first? then the angel later on? rams are peaceful right? so when the baby angel gets placed in, the rams won't mess with it, will they?

Having a couple of cichlids in a non-cichlid tank

its a 50 gal, 36 long, 21 tal, 18 deep. sand with rocks and drift wood, and only three 'soon to be' plants in there. i really dont want a planted tank, but i decided i am going to put just three in there though, to add some color. id love to have some rams and an angel. if i did do that, which...

Is my tank almost done cycling?

Okay, I've started to cycle my tank on december 30. Today as I write this, it's january 10th. I've read the thread (a few times) on fishless cycling for dummies. Awesome thread. I know it usually takes 4-6 weeks. BUT, my fluval was used (came with the tank), so I had some media still in it with...

    Filter

I recently added a aquaclear 50 as a second filter for my tank, and so far, I really like it. Not to loud at all, and you can put whatever media inside you want. I did a lot of research on HOB's, and ended up finding out that every one loves aquaclears (made by hagen!) :)

    Help! Fish Dying!!!

Hey mutt. Looks like you're gonna have to probably do a couple pwc each day to keep that ammonia at bay. and also test every day as well. check out this thread, from the getting started section. it helped me learn a lot...

Using an Aqueon Water Changer to refill a tank?

coleallensmom, how long have you had yours for? I am also thinking of buying the aqueon, but because of reviews, mentioning having to buy replacement parts every couple months, I'm thinking of just sticking with the buckets

    Dirty Surface Water

ya it probably is from the sand. I did rinse it for a while, but the water always seemed to stay cloudy no matter how long I would keep rinsing. I'm using Silica sand, from home depot. I did a lot of research online before deciding on it, and seems a lot of people use it with success. Other than...

    Dirty Surface Water

I've been cycling my tank now for almost a week. It's a 50 gal, with a fluval 304 running. The water seems nice and clear when you look at the tank, but when you look from above, you see little debri floating around on top. What can I do to fix this problem? I'm going to be adding a HOB soon...
