    Help with toadstool

hi all! Long time no see. Have had SOOO many ups and downs between our 3 reef tanks since I've been here, BUT am getting smarter on them! All of the hair algae (for those who remember) stemmed from inadequate MH/fluor/moonlight hood I was sold and I lost hundreds and hundreds of dollars of...

    Sea Hare Vs. Anemone

no sump...this is a biocube that is open on top with a light fixture on legs on the top. I've had the lettuce nudis before...they are much smaller so could try them. Never heard of a foxface eating it...could try that, too. I would LOVE to take the rock out and scrub it and considered doing...

    Sea Hare Vs. Anemone

Thanks for the advice! Will ask him (lol, nicely... as he LOVES doing my water changes for me) to do it once a week. Yes, we buy RO water and I had never heard what you said about the hair algae eating up the phos/nitrates and leaving a 0 reading. What can I do about that other than more often...

    Sea Hare Vs. Anemone

My son does partial water changes bi weekly. It is a 28 gallon tank and he probably changes 4-5 gallons each time. I know there is never a guarantee something won't get eaten, but I'm hoping to generate some additional answers on what may have gone wrong so I can make a somewhat intelligent...

    Sea Hare Vs. Anemone

but as you can see, there was PLENTY of hair algae still for him to eat and he spent lots of time on the side of the tank as well....hard to believe he would have been out of food. I would have started supplementing him with algae sheets like we do in my son's tank for his tangs...moot point...

    Sea Hare Vs. Anemone

anemone identification/location Here's a photo of the anemone and where it is in the tank. As you can see, there hair algae is thick and hardy by the anemone and I'm unable to get to it without attack nemo biting me and I'm wondering if the same thing happened to the sea hare? I've heard of sea...

    Sea Hare Vs. Anemone

type not sure...will snap a photo and post it. It was a tiny anemone when I got it and I've never had any luck in getting them to survive in any of my small tanks. My son had issues in his larger tank, too, but we both ended up with one (each) that survived nicely...would be good to know what...

    Sea Hare Vs. Anemone

Just came home from church to see my anemone eating my sea hare! :banghead: I couldn't believe it! I didn't think my anemone was that big, especially considering the sea hare was over 3 inches and chunky. I had NO clue what was in the anemone's mouth...my son said he thought that was what...

    SICK LOBO - need identification/advice

you know what I just thought of? There is a large anenome in the back lefthand side of the tank. He can get rather large, but for close to a year he has been in the same place, happy as a lark....just the clown and him. WELL, this morning, he decided he was tired of that place and started to...

    SICK LOBO - need identification/advice

Hi all, In our 55 gallon tank, one coral after another has been biting the dust. :( First, the elegance, then a brain, candy cane, pineapple and now his lobo, which has been wonderfully happy for eight months has developed some cyst looking bumps this last week. Well tonight it looks as if one...

    ID please

Hi there In my son's tank (55 gallon fish, live rock & coral) we have seen white spaghetti worms inside caves of the live rock, but I just saw a few long very skinny green thread looking things on top of an area of zoas/polyps that is keeping them closed it seems. Are there green spaghetti...

hi Doug, Great to see you again! :-) As always, thanks for your quick reply and your page full of answers you don't feel like typing, hahahaha I never thought of the sand sifting star, in a 3 month tank that does make sense, guess I'll send him to my son's tank. Could he really ingest a pygmy...

    Updates and advice please

Hi there...I'm baaaacckkk! :p Reminder: I'm still working on some issues in my large nano tank (went from 12 gallon to the 28) and I ordered the 20,000 K light online but they sent a 250 watt so I'm waiting on the right one. Still have screen up. Have put in a heater set to 78 degrees but I...

Coral (mostly zoas) issues in new reef tank

nutrients over kill My son just came in from work and he's the one always messing with the tanks. I let him know the consensus is too much feeding and chemicals...he just nodded. As we talked he indicated that when he asks at the LFSs they are always suggesting this and that. Dohhhh...

Coral (mostly zoas) issues in new reef tank

Thanks for the answers....are you saying the 20,000 bulb is not necessarily what to do? Need to know before I spend the money. Will the corals eventually get used to the light? The couple I purchased the frags from had very strong MH lights...why are they reacting so poorly in mine? I can...

Coral (mostly zoas) issues in new reef tank

Hi all, Started a question/thread yesterday and received lots of advice, thank you very much. But although we got the temperature of the tank settled, there was varying opinions on what may have happened to all of the new zoas, original polyps and a couple other corals in my somewhat new 30...
