    J.d and jewel ...fighting

Africans and SA cichlids together? Not a good idea! The jewels are usually thought and treated as SA but they are in fact africans. I have never heard of jd and jewels getting along. Not sure why!

male or female jack please help

How many jd do you have? Adding one cichlid to another cichlids tank is usually not a good idea. If you can try to get a few more say 5 jd total. If she is just cahsing him and he gets away things aren't bad. If he has missing scales or torn up fins that's bad. Keep in mind though that being...

    That's a cichlid tank right!?

male or female jack please help

Sounds good. You should take some pics of the newly decorated tank! The female will do that for a while cause it is her tank. Moving stuff and adding more decorations will take her out of "her tank" ;) and create unknown territories!

male or female jack please help

Before they from a pair they will gill flare at eachother and liplock quite often. If the female starts hanging out at the top of the aquarium and swims sideways, that's a bad sign! Jacks can go a few weeks to a few months between spawns. I have heard jd can be a one time spawner and then move...

male or female jack please help

Yeah that's for sure. You could add more hiding spots and move everything around, that reduces hostility for a little while.

male or female jack please help

Its a waiting game now. They may or may not pair but you could try tapping a small mirror on the aquarium to make the male attack it. This usually rouses the female to breed. The male also needs to get a foot hold in the tank or they won't mate!

male or female jack please help

You don't always have to get a larger male. Keep in mind that is the females tank so it is possible that you won't be able to add just one male! It would be advisable to add several fish and wait for two fish to pair. Then return the others to the fish store or move them to another tank...

male or female jack please help

The females have more blue spangles(spots) on the gill plate and males have more on there bodies. This is not accurate until the fish are matured

male or female jack please help

With most cichlids you should get the fish when they're young, so they can pair up on there own! You can add a male at anytime but typically the male will need to be larger than the female.

    Convict tankmates (safe & colorful)

Stay with bigger cichlids. Convicts can be pretty aggressive! Dwarf cichlids will be fish food once the others get big enough

    Need advice on a Cichlid??

It does look female but from my understanding these fish cannot breed with other parrots. You'd have to get another non-hybrid male cichlid. For instance a male midas!

    Male or female Convict?

Cool thanks for the update. I do the same thing with my convict fry. Feed them to my jacks!

    Male or female Convict?

I would go with peacocks if you want a lot of fish in that tank. The convicts will pair up and get very aggressive. You could keep larger cichlids in with the paired convicts as long as you have plenty of hiding spots.

    Male or female Convict?

That's large enough. They should be fine as long as you give them plenty of hiding spots and try to break the lines of sight.

    Male or female Convict?

Well it depends on the fish! All fish have their own way attitude. I have kept multiple females in the same tank but two I don't think so. If its a small tank one of them will claim the tank as her own. What size tank?
  23. L

    Male or female Convict?

Yeah that looks like a pair! If those other fish are in the same tank they will be massacred. Convicts are one of the most aggressive cichlids when breeding and will take down a full grown oscar with no problems!

    Male or female Convict?

Yeah that's a jack not a green terror! She'll be just fine with those convicts
