Which heater brand is best In your opinion?

I prefer the older green-top Jagers over the new blue top (since Eheim bought them). My favorite, though, is Visi-therm Stealth. IMHO, the more one reliable available right now if you can't get the green top Jager.

    Copper levels

The house sits on the lake shore. The water comes from a well.

    Copper levels

What are tolerable low and high levels of copper for plants and plecos? Since the lake has been treated in the the past two years with larger amounts of copper sulfate, we are not able to keep plants or plecos. Other fish (Angels, Tetras, Gouramis) show no change or stress, but the plants and...

    Aphyocharax sp.

Bloodfins (A. anisitsi) are said to live in excess of ten years. Do other Aphyocharax have similar life expectancies? I'm specifically interested in A. rathbuni (Redflank Bloodfin, Green Fire Tetra). Are there any reasons to prefer one over the other?

    BIO-Wheel?

Bio-wheels work very well in fish only tanks and don't appear to cause any major problems in low light, non CO2 tanks, but are not recommended for planted tanks adding CO2. I've not yet tried it, but by all accounts Bio-Spira appears to work well for tank cycle issues. There are other ways to...

    African Driftwood BLACK FUZZ

Thanks for the link. The stuff I had grew in about month or so after I got it from an LFS on 93rd and 3rd (Manhattan) called Crystal Aquariums. Shows how far back that goes.

    African Driftwood BLACK FUZZ

QTOFFER, Do you know where I can see a photo of this fungus? Without a picture of SavnLife's black fuzz, I at first thought that it might be some kind of algae. In the past, I had black "fur" looking stuff (about 1/2" long) on the top of a petrified wood column. Looked good, but made me nervous...

Red Cherry Shrimp, Iodine and Potassium Chloride

Thank you for both the assistance and the welcome, most appreciated. What size tank are you adding the 1 drop to? Which Iodine product are you using?

Red Cherry Shrimp, Iodine and Potassium Chloride

I use KCl in my planted tank and want to add 6 to 8 Neocaridina denticulata (aka Minami Numa Ebi or Taiwan Shrimp). I have heard that you need to add Iodine when keeping shrimp. I've also heard that KCl is harmful to shrimp. My questions are: Is Iodine needed with these shrimp? and Is Potassium...
