Plecos don't necessarily NEED bogwood/driftwood, some just enjoy it. I kept plecs for over a year in a tank without any, then I decided to get some for them and they haven't bothered with it all. If anything I'd advise a sand substrate for plecs, that's made the biggest difference to mine

My betta does exactly the same thing but only since I moved him out of my 36g and into his own 8g. Might be some kind of adjustment behaviour or something??

Only a pitbull or a bristlenose pleco. Any others will grow too big, those only get to around 3inches

That's cool then at the min I have an 18w 7500k tube over a 36g bowfront which I know isn't a lot but it was keeping my java fern alive nicely however yesterday I added a load of crypts and some more fern so I'm hoping the reflector will help keep them going too?

I've just purchased a reflector for the light in my fw tank. I'm just wondering if this will increase the light power for growing plants or is it just going to make it brighter?

Yeah but I've got a cory eggs on the other side on the glass and these look bigger, more yellow and have them little black/brown bits round them

Here's my tank fully planted, do we think my lighting will be adequate to keep this lot alive? Also do I need to do anything with regards to Co2 or ferts? I just found out that my light tube is a 7500k, apparently 'ideal' for plant growth

I think of it this way, the majority of fish are bred in captivity for the purpose of being used as pets. These fish were born into small tanks wildly overstocked with other fish, then taken to a shop where it's placed into another overstocked small tank, so who's to say they're going to feel...

To be honest are we not just applying a happiness rating to a fish? We assume a fish is happy just because it's in clean water, has room to swim and is well fed, but in reality we have no clue what it's feeling, if anything? And let face it, if any of us were really that bothered about the...

Cheapest alternative I've ever seen was using 6 breeze blocks (3 each side) with a 2 inch thick board across the top. They then painted the breeze blocks and job done. It's looked really nice, I can't find the pic right now but I'll post it if I do

I've put more java fern in my tank but it's still lacking..... Are there any low light plants I can plant directly into sand instead of attaching to wood?
