    New Betta Project

Very true. If it can go wrong it probably will, so be prepared [emoji28]

    New Betta Project

That’s looking really good! I would be careful adding anything besides the betta though. 5 gallons is really the minimum for bettas (so good job on getting a big enough tank, 6.5 is great, a lot of people think bettas can live in tiny tanks), and I would be hesitant to cohab in anything less...

    Back After Several Years

Hi guys, I don’t know if anyone who was active when I was is still here, since I haven’t logged in since 2012. I used to be extremely active on the forums and had learned quite a bit and was able to help others who were earlier in their aquarium journey. I haven’t been as interested in...

Diving Into Saltwater- 10 Gallon Reef Tank

So, I noticed that I haven't updated for a while. Just thought I'd let you guys know that everyone is doing great. :) I still have one hermit crab, the two nassarius snails, and Mr Heatmiser. XD

    Difference between these male guppies??

Growing to fit the tank is actually called stunting. Any fish can be stunted in a too small aquarium. The body stops growing but the organs and such keep going. Eventually something gets too cramped, or touches something it shouldn't, so the fish will die.

Diving Into Saltwater- 10 Gallon Reef Tank

Well, the Firefish still hides a lot, but has been coming out quite a bit as well. He's been with me long enough that I feel comfortable with naming him, so his name is now Mr. Heatmiser XD

    Algae ID?

Okay, thanks. :) ill have to try some water changes. I haven't had time yet. Teachers seem to think that we have no social lives and need tons of homework to fill our time, lol

    Algae ID?

Okay. Yeah, it really seemed to grow a lot when the light accidentally got left on all weekend while I was at my dad's house :/ before that it was just a dark spot.

    Algae ID?

So, this patch of algae that I have started out looking like a kind of dirty spot on the sand, and I thought I just needed to get some snails to sift the sand, but now it's turned into a patch of algae that's kind of long and wispy, kind of like hair, and an almost purple-black sort of color...

    Nitrite Help

Well then, it being cycled at the moment wouldn't matter. You'd have to clean it out and then recycle it before getting the oscars. And you also wanna be careful to make sure that they aren't both males, cause I'm pretty sure they'll kill each other.

    Nitrite Help

Bigger is always better. But is there anything in the 120 yet?

Do you have the Oscar now? Or are you talking about if you get one?

    Nitrite Help

I've heard people say that their common goldfish really do best in a pond, actually.

    Nitrite Help

You generally wanna keep your nitrites below .25 for any fish. The fish may be hardy, but too high of a nitrite level will kill any fish. The solution is water changes, or in the future, do a fishless cycle to skip all those daily water changes.

    Nitrite Help

It seems like you're in the nitrite stage now. Keep doing water changes, and as long as you keep it low enough, you should be fine. Also, a common goldfish really needs a pond. A twenty gallon is the minimum for the fancies, which are a lot smaller when full grown. This guy will probably be...

    Hello from SC

Hi, welcome to AA! :) I will warn you though that the bala shark is definitely going to need a bigger tank sometime, and the mollies would probably do best with at least a 20 gallon.

Diving Into Saltwater- 10 Gallon Reef Tank

Good to hear. :) I was starting to think that was the case, cause when I caught him out long enough to feed him yesterday, he appeared to be perfectly healthy, if still a little cautious of his surroundings.

Diving Into Saltwater- 10 Gallon Reef Tank

Okay, he is officially fine! I saw him venture out twice today, and was even able to feed him one of the times, and he ate a good amount. I think I was just overreacting about him adjusting to the new tank. :)

Diving Into Saltwater- 10 Gallon Reef Tank

Thanks. :) Yeah, I really hope he's okay too. He's such a neat little fish when he isn't hiding all day.

Diving Into Saltwater- 10 Gallon Reef Tank

I got him from Adam's Aquatics. It's this great fish store about forty minutes away from where I live. Ive never seen a dead fish in one of their tanks, and the fish I've gotten from there have been pretty healthy. When I got the firefish from there, I also got 4 harlequin rasboras for another...

Diving Into Saltwater- 10 Gallon Reef Tank

Sadly, my dear little Firefish died. :( I hadn't seen him out at all today, so I shined a flashlight in his little hole, and he was dead. :( I don't know what happened, he seemed fine. I'm gonna check my parameters tomorrow when I have time, and do a water change. I also have to figure out how...

Diving Into Saltwater- 10 Gallon Reef Tank

Yup, he's definitely my favorite fish. XD if he actually lives for a few more weeks, then I'm gonna name him. :) and I'm trying to think of names for my hermits.

    Stuck?

Okay. Sounds good. And I completely agree that the bristlenoses are amazing. :) I have one, and its awesome. It's in the tank I have in my room at my dad's house, and since I don't go there much, my dad let the water level of the 29 gallon get to about 1/4 of the way full, and the filter quit...

    Stuck?

Okay, I'll just comment on what I know about for sure. First of all, keep an eye on those barbs and the Betta. Nippy fish and bettas sometimes don't mix well. Secondly, what kind of crab is it? Some crabs that are commonly sold as aquatic actually need access to land, or they will drown...
