    Biocube protein skimmer and algae

How long have you had it? Are you sure you're just not going through your case of the "uglies"? I have a Biocube 29 with a maroon clown, a green mandarin, 2 mini maxis and a couple brittle stars, and a snotload of snails.. I've gone through the diatom bloom, and now occasionally get small...

    What is this fish?

I don't agree with the Firemouth - even at that size it should have *some* color. Also, the marking around the eye is wrong.. Does yours have any red at all under the gills, and along the belly back to the tail? Here's mine.. (male)

55 gal help? Mixing community cichlids?

I kept them 3 in a 60 tall.. So, even though mine had 5 more gallons, if yours is a 55 regular, your footprint is WAY better.

55 gal help? Mixing community cichlids?

Pictus cats are a *riot*. I have three. They don't hide during the day, they don't hide at night.. I don't think they even sleep. They just go sailing from one end of the tank to the other, straight over the top of anything that gets in their way, and they feed with the rest of my fish...

    Heeeeere, Fishy, Fishy, Fishy...

Well, fudge. Everyone else says it's a girl JD.. Here's another pic of that convict, but she won't be having any fry.. :)

Do you guys name your fish?

I name them all... Convict is Guido (she turned out to be a girl, but she's been very boy-like, so it stays.) Firemouth is Moby (cuz he/she's a ****) Jack Dempsey is Fluffy  Green Severum is Sushi (she got chewed on her first 2 days in the tank) The Spotted Pictus are all named Steve...

    Planning 125 Gallon Show Tank

The convicts are down to one - two have been rehomed in exchange for a Firemouth and Green Severum.

    Turquoise severum cichlid

Not in the least.. Last fish I had that was sick had ich, and that was probably 20 years ago.. Sorry.. :( But what's wrong with it? You might be able to type symptoms and fish type in to Google, and get quite a few hits... Wetwebmedia is one that comes up an awful lot - he seems to know what...

But they're *oh so much prettier*. I wanted them really, really bad. :)

    Turquoise severum cichlid

Not so much as the fact that blues need warmer water and are not suitable in community tanks. Theyre better in species only tanks. Water changes are bigger and more frequent. They have a low tolerance for just about everything.

    Turquoise severum cichlid

Your other fish should be fine... Blue rams are *very* picky about water quality, plants, etc. Bolivians are heartier.. Just as colorful, tho.. They get to be approx. 4", or so.. Blues hit 2-3"..

    Turquoise severum cichlid

Severums and angelfish would work with heartier rams than the blue. Blues might be a little *too*...."wimpy". Severums need to be at least in 2's. Angels I thought were ok by themselves..

    Temp

It depends on the type of fish you have... In some (like cichlids) higher temps can increase aggression, metabolism, etc. In other cases, nothing much happens, especially if you're within the range for your fish type, even if it's the high end of the range, so long as you're stable, and don't...

    new addutions

My suggestion would be to stop adding fish to your aquarium until you get it cleaned out and stabilized. Once it's been stabilized for a month, add one fish. Make sure that fish lives for 2 weeks, and add a second fish, and so on. I've never heard of multiple fish dying within an hour or so...

    new addutions

You have a 15 gallon tank that you're medicating for ich, which contains salt, and you just dumped somewhere between 4 and 7 fish in all at once. I would say they can't handle those conditions in general - not just the salt.

    Heeeeere, Fishy, Fishy, Fishy...

...is it safe to assume I have all girls? (Guido STILL looks like a boy to me, regardless of the orange on the belly.. Finnage, overall shape, disposition...) Fluffy is the Dempsey - I assume "she" is big enough to sex now, is a girl, and isn't going to get much more color? The Firemouth is...

    My first ever aquarium

So you just naturally sound that way? (Sorry.. Don't expect me to back down and be submissive just because I'm new to *this* forum, and your post count happens to be higher than mine.) Now, back to the topic at hand. No matter how you want to slice it, putting goldfish with cichlids is *not*...

    Aqueon water changer, help?

Are all of your fittings tight on both the sink, and the hose itself?

    Aqueon water changer, help?

Then I'm not understanding why.. How far is your tank from your sink? If the hose is *totally* coiled, it takes a few seconds, but it still goes. At one point, my tank was probably only 12 feet from my sink.

    Aqueon water changer, help?

No. You open the vacuum end all the way. I've used this on a 30 gallon tank as well, and it worked. Tilt your vacuum so it's totally submerged.

    Aqueon water changer, help?

I have a 25' hose; the gravel cleaner portion is probably about 12", but my tank is 22" deep, so it works fine.

    Aqueon water changer, help?

What size is your hose, and what size is your tank? The gravel filter portion must be completely submerged in your tank.

    Aqueon water changer, help?

Is your water turned on high enough? You need the water pressure to start the suctioning.
