    55 Gallon Freshwater Planted

Update Update.. Tank is doing very well and had to do a bit of restructuring a bit ago and things couldn't be better. Finally have my PH at exactly 7.0 and temp at a steady 82. Going to finally add the Discus!

    55 Gallon Freshwater Planted

Thanks man. It's just a background I found at a LFS. I usually went with just the plain black or blue, but this time I wanted a little cheese to the tank. I am pretty happy with it and my fish like it too.

    55 Gallon Freshwater Planted

Wow.. proof that great lighting & Flourish works like a champ! No C02 added to this tank and the plants are happy! Going to have to trim the Wisteria pretty soon if it keeps growing like it is. Just added a Bumblebee Pleco and a couple Red Crystal Shrimp

Hi there! I'm looking for.. FreshWater Clams Baby Tears Freshwater Shrimp Happy to pay for them as well as shipping costs to San Antonio, Texas. I can't seem to find anywhere online that isn't WAY too expensive or has ridiculous shipping fees and there are no LFS's around here that stock...

    55 Gallon Freshwater Planted

You lost me on the inline reactor? I read up a bit via Google and I'm a bit lost on what it's function is? I always went with the classic blue or black background, but wanted to mix it up a bit and go with the cheezy plantscaped one this time. :D

    55 Gallon Freshwater Planted

Some plants filling in a lot more then others, so had to re-landscape a bit. I have tried my luck with a bit of the Flourish & C02 booster (API).. anyone else recommend anything for the plants? The substrate apparently is loaded with iron.

    55 Gallon Freshwater Planted

Update.,. Hey, hope everyone had a good weekend! Just wanted to post an updated picture of my planted tank. It's coming along nicely, everything is flourishing pretty well! I've added a few new critters to the tank now that it has cycled. Current Inhabitants: Rubbernose Pleco Clown Pleco 3...

    55 Gallon Freshwater Planted

Hey, thanks! I used Seachem Flourite in there, I believe it was about 3 bags and about 1/2 bag of larger pebble rock underneath it. I'm hoping it's sufficient with some liquid fert to keep the plants happy. I'm trying to avoid a C02 only due to aesthetic reasons! Without a sump, it's just...

    55 Gallon Freshwater Planted

Just setup this new Planted tank last week. Everything in it is natural and there are no fake decorations. It's just beginning it's cycle and I'm going to update pictures as I add more plants and fish. Still getting my PH and temp stabilized as well. Shooting to eventually add Discus. I...

I need help on cichlid tank with coral sand.

I've got 3 clown loaches and a yo-yo loach with my african cichlids.. they do a pretty good job of vacuuming.

    20 Gallon Cichlid Tank

Update.. I've gotten a few more plants since I initially re-structured and they seem to be doing pretty good. The mini-C02 works great and I've been very pleased with it.

    C02 vs Fish

Fantastic! I guess spending hours reading articles on taking care of aquatic plants has definitely been worthwhile. Thanks for the clarification and it has given me an even better understanding of the process.

    C02 vs Fish

Hi, Plant Noob here. I was just wondering how you go about ensuring there is a good distribution of C02 vs. Oxygen for the fish? For example, I read that the main culprit for the dissipation of C02 is disturbing the surface of the water. The air stones obviously create a lot of disturbance...

    20 Gallon Cichlid Tank

Hey, well I've got 5-6 pieces of coral that are buried supporting the others. The larger stones on top (I think) are a type of shale. I found them all near my house near a construction site. There was a dry river bed that had been dug up, I pulled them all from there.

    20 Gallon Cichlid Tank

Hey thanks! I just finished installing the C02 unit this afternoon, it was a lot easier then I expected. I'm looking forward to monitoring the plant growth!

    20 Gallon Cichlid Tank

Great info! I will definitely take it down then after a couple of weeks, I wasn't sure when or if I ever would, but that clarifies it for me. That will leave more room for the C02 distributor. The biowheel takes up a bit too much real estate. Thanks Chief.

    20 Gallon Cichlid Tank

Oh yea definitely a must! I was actually just going to leave the Biowheel in place. I figured it wouldn't do any harm running both. If I did take the biowheel off, what would be a good amount of time for the bacteria in the bio portion of the Fluval to take over? This was the first time I...

    20 Gallon Cichlid Tank

Update.. I was feeling froggy today so I re-landscaped, installed a new Fluval 205, ditched the plastic plants and put in some real ones. The only exception was I kept 1 plastic one for now to cover up a powerhead on the right side of the tank. I really like the look of the amazon sword...

    20 Gallon Cichlid Tank

No problem, I just made sure that his tank mates were the same size or more aggressive (cichlids) then he is. I think with slower moving, docile, and smaller fish there may be more of a chance of him going for a quick meal. The only issue I've really had with him, is just getting food to him...

    20 Gallon Cichlid Tank

Yea he's pretty nocturnal, so hard to snap a pic of him during the day and with lights on. He usually hides in his cave that he's claimed in the tank all day long. He has never snapped at any of the fish at all, he has ignored everyone and just keeps to himself. The clown loaches crawl all...

    20 Gallon Cichlid Tank

I haven't had any problems yet with either of them. They're no more aggressive then any of the other cichlids in there. Oddly enough the YoYo Loach is probably the most aggressive of the bunch. :D
