had convicts for a year and had to get rid of the pair because of constant breeding.. My male looked alot like yours does... he was paired with the gold and white (not sure the name) cichlid... if you have males in your tank I'm sure the female took her pick and hes not happy about it.

quick lesson I learned being a newbie is that over feeding causes ammonia levels to sky rocket.. I'm currently getting my tank back in order. Let every one know what your water tests out.. ph, ammonia, and nitrites... its a good place to start.. also learned not to suck things out of the gravel...

water change after water change and my nitrite is still at .25... my ammonia is reading 0 so thats good... I picked up some easy balance with nitraban in hopes that this will help balance things out. Unfortunately I dont know any one with a tank or I would grab their old filter and throw it in...

this is my newly planted 40gal with my small EBJD sharing the tank with a pictus cat and smaller EBJD who is currently in therapy tank. If any one can tell me the sex of this fish that would be great! Hope you enjoy the pictures! :)

Homedog: I took your advice.. didnt get the master kit though. Just the nitrite and ammonia for now.. I have a ph tester... master these three then I'll get real technical with lighting and co2 for my plants...!

ok so I went and bought a test kit for nitrite and ammonia.. I've done 2 50% water changes one yesterday and one early this morning. I tested and this is the readings... NO2 is .50ppm and the ammonia is reading .25ppm... now.. I have about 5 small plants in the tank as well... they are only...

I took the some of the water from both tanks to the local aquarium shop and she tested the water.. blew my mind to find the ammonia reading so high... tested the "therapy tank" and readings were better.. she advised that I slow down on the feeding and to a 50% water change for the next 4 days...
