    ID for two???

The first one is some kind of wrasse I think. The second is a flame box crab. Edit: I think it's a clown wrasse.

    Florida fighting conch

That's not a blade, it's their operculum. It basically acts as a trapdoor that they use to protect themselves when they pull back into their shell. It's not sharp and not used for anything other than protection and moving around.

    Tank swapping question

I wouldn't put it in the bathtub. Who knows what cleaners u used on it and what they could do to the water and rock that's in it. I would get either buckets or the 30 gal storage tubs from rubbermaid

    Protein skimmer

I have the reef octopus bh-1000, which i think is the model below the one ur looking at. I have the same problem with my 55, it's too narrow to fit anything underneath. The skimmer works great, the only problem I've had is there are almost no instructions for it, the ones that come with it are...

    Huge accident please help!!!

I really think that PWCs would be the best. As many and as large as you can do over the next couple of days. I dont know if adding carbon would help, maybe be someone else will way in on that. And then get a padlock for the top of the tank, hope everyone makes it through ok.

    American Flag Fish

My g/f had a couple in her tank. Had to take them back to the LFS bc they were shredding everyone else's fins.

    FTMMWS's 280 build ...

Yeah a lot of collectors use cyanide to collect the fish. It stuns and slows down the fish, the permanent damage and death doesn't show up for a week or two which is unfortunately the time when us aquarists are brining the fish home from the LFS.

    FTMMWS's 280 build ...

Is that the one thats orange? I've only seen pictures never in real life... Really cool fish.

    Protien Skimmer of death

I have a HOB reef octopus skimmer, im thinking of changing its name to the skimmer of death. So far It has murdered my 6 line wrasse, 2 peppermint shrimp and my yellow watchman goby. It always happens the same way, the skimmer starts making these crazy noises and when I take it apart the...

    Unidentified fish

I think it might be a triplefin. Does it look anything like this?

    Coming soon: baby american lobsters

That's awesome! I'm working on my masters also. Anyway u could share ur preliminary findings. That's a really interesting topic and could have some far reaching affects. What are you gonna do with them once they are grown?

    Innovative Marine Skkye light

Thanks. The few reviews I've seen have all been pretty good. But they never said what size tank they were over. So I was worried about coverage. What are the dimensions of your tank?

    Innovative Marine Skkye light

I didn't get them yet. Still undecided what kind I want to get.

To cover or not to cover

That thing is incredible! With that much water volume I would expect that the temperature would remain fairly constant. As far as evaporation goes, yeah they would cut down on it. However, they would be some pretty big pieces of glass and what if you wanted to work in the middle of the tank...

    Bettas and adfs

I had 2 with my Betta and it was very difficult to feed them. The Betta keep stealing all their food. Eventually I have them away bc they started to look skinny from not eating enough.

    French angelfish

I don't think 100 gal is big enough. I've seen French angels in the wild and in captivity larger than dinner plates, almost 18" long and tall. Also liveaquaria recommends 250gal min. http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=15+18+409&pcatid=409

    Can fish see red light?

I think most fish can't see red light because that is the first light absorbed by the water and doesn't really penetrate past the first 15-20 ft of the water column. In fact a lot of deep sea fish are red but look black because there is no red light down there

    Innovative Marine Skkye light

Really the 92watt wouldn't be enough for a 20g? Maybe I'll ask one for Xmas and buy a second one.

For Sale or trade: Aquasafe 7-stage RO/DI unit, NEVER USED

Is the RO unit still available?
  22. Gubernaculum86

    what is this?

From what I've heard they can be bc they are filter feeders and only eat what's in the water. Never had a Xmas tree worm personally, but i do have a large feather duster that I target feed cyclopleeze once a week. If u really want it to survive u could feed it phytoplankton or since it's a...

    coral banded shrimp

When shrimp molt any parts of the antenna that we're missing are replaced. I know coral banded have really long antennae, up to 6" across.
  24. Gubernaculum86

    what is this?

If its the thing with the spiral attached to it ten it looks like a Christmas tree worm. Harmless filter feeding worms pretty cool if u can keep it in ur tank.

    Diamond goby question

Can't think of any reason why it would hurt. Fish need a day and night cycle and if his burrow is lit up when the rest of the tank is dark it could probably cause issues.
