First Cichlid Tank, need serious help

I agree with venting (not to confuse "VENTING" deep water fish) as a surfire way to sex any fish, however, it is extremely difficult when they are small and color ID IS the method used, afterall... it is a 50/50 chance with some species...lol Yes, yellow labs are compatable with different...

I have researched all sump/wet_dry filters (have HOB and had a canister on the 55 but do not care for them & b4 you ask... there is way too much media bypass in the hobs and my canister raised temp to 80+ deg.)...

Kenyi looking a little funny :D

I agree... hybrids (cross breeding) is what causes the species to lose color luster and making it very difficult in ID of species... cichlids were much brighter and bolder in color 25 years ago and eisier to sex. Get another tank...lol:) Good luck with the fry papa...lol

    Feeding

I use NLS cichlid formula, I see your suposed to feed only what they consume in a couple of min. However, I notice the fish spill alot out of their gills... why? and does this contribute to "over feeding" causing the tank to muck up and the filter to clog prematurely?

Why is my 10 gallon so cloudy?

Hold the phone... I belive the problem is your effort to be too clean... Gravel vac and filter (rinse, replace, whatever) is too much at once. You removed a great deal of good bacteria. I have done that once myself b4 I knew anything about the "CYCLE"... try letting the bacteria grow back in the...

Why is my 10 gallon so cloudy?

Doing a pwc, do you use tap water? if so, do you use prime or other dechlorinator? Did you do a pwc, gravel vac and change something in your filter at the same time (eg. sponge, charcoal and or bio material)?

    Tiny White/Clear bugs Everywhere

Question is... how did they get in the tank??? Some say from your tap water, others say the food you feed the fish???????? In either case, try to use RO water. Yes, they are not harmful to your fish but will devour snails... if they came from your tap water, hope you drink RO water as well...

    Tiny White/Clear bugs Everywhere

That looks like copepods... as far as i know, the only safe way to rid the little pests without harming your fish is to do pwc's @20-30% daily or every other day and syphon them out at the same time. But google copepods first and wait to hear from a moderator with more experience. Hope all works...
