I don't think that it's too much. I have a ten gallon(US) with a 6500K 39 watt compact flourescent(custom setup), and a F15T8 10000K, running for 12 hours a day(2-6 hour intervals), and my plants and fish are doing fine.

My setup will do it. I actually use a air pump to help keep the levels right around 30 ppm(drop checker lime green with 4 dkh solution) through the use of an air pump. I'm also achieving full dissolving of the CO2.

I'm also running DIY CO2 on my 10 gallon. Finally seem to have most of the kinks worked out(plants are constantly pearling). The best way I've found to monitor the CO2 levels is with a drop checker. Easy visual reading for your CO2 levels. The pH will give you an idea of if it's working or not...

I have amano shrimp in my 10 gallon, which has CO2 injection. As long as I keep the drop checker to lime green as the highest, they don't seem to even notice.

I know Barry's a spoiled betta. 10 gallons, to share with 4 amano shrimp and 3 ottos. If that pic had been half a second later, you would have seen him in the middle of snagging one of those huge mosquitos as a between meal snack.
