For Sale: Aponogeton Boivinianus - Large Freshwater Plant

21-24" plant; still pretty young. The pictures are a week old. It now has 6x 21+" leaves on it, and 2-4x 12" leaves. Is growing very quickly; very healthy plant. I'm only selling because it was sold to me as a Madagascar Lace bulb, which it is now clearly not. $15 + USPS flat rate...

I have a green algae problem

You are right. I forgot & had to look it up.

I have a green algae problem

Ohh wait! You have purple lights. Replace them first. Those are doing nothing for your plants, but your algae likes them just fine.

I have a green algae problem

Yup; I bet you are growing algae like crazy. You have a lot of mouths to feed. I'd try to rehome a lot of them; but that's just me. --- assuming that's off the table --- You are generating a serious amount of nitrates of which you algae gets first dibs. Remember: nitrate should never...

I have a green algae problem

No no! Don't feed your poor discus less! Algae comes from a misbalance of nutrients, too much or too few. What kind of light are you using? -- I need specifics; bulb type (t5ho,etc), age of bulbs, brand/model, color temp. You obviously have plants, how many/what type? What size tank...

    Vals :)

I'm glad they found a good home! My discus were about to stage a revolt overthrow the Jungle Val government. When they are happy plants, some of there leaves will turn from green to reddish. When they are in this mode, they reproduce like mad plants. Growth will be right around 12" in a week...

    Discus fish

I'd say my neons have had (and still have) a longer life expectancy with me and my 84F than they would have had at my LFS or most of the homes that would have been placed. To that end; I think many people have proven that domesticated fish will survive and often even thrive in pretty awful...

    Discus fish

Sounds like you are doing a great job. Keep it up! It's not hard, just have to keep doing it. Fast water pumps from your aged barrel helps. So does a water alarm (usually for freezers). California Black worms, I get from here: http://www.aquaticfoods.com/worms.html Their prices include...

25C = 77F; so yes it is too low. They should be in 84F (29C)

    Discus fish

I guess I mistyped. What I meant was he (the professional discus breeder) believed that too frequent of WC's removed the ammonia before the bio filter had a chance to 'eat' it, therefore starving the bacteria. So when the fish generate ammonia after their large meals, the bio-filter wasn't...

    Discus fish

Discus almost do use a different set of rules. The many many water changes (or DWC implying DAILY water changes) can hurt your bio filter. I know a breeder who teaches not going overboard with DWC. He says multiple changes per day and high percent (90%+) changes everyday leads to a...

    Discus fish

So I'll share my fish and setup too if its helpful. 7x adult discus, neons, and 3x Siamese algae eaters 75g tank, 70% water changes twice weekly with aged tap water. Fluval G6 canister filter running only biological and mechanical filtration, as chemical will remove my fertilizers. 4x T5HO...

    For Sale: Jungle Vals

Tomorrow morning is plant day, last call! Everyone that pays will probably get way more than 10x plants because I indent to mail all jungle val plants that I don't keep. So let's get it started! This is a great deal!

    Discus fish

Woah. Your LFS just gave you terrible advise. Discus above all else LOVE water changes. Many people do 100% water changes. I do 70% twice a week on my planted/adult (75g) tank and 30% daily (pure RO/DI) on my (55g) adult proven pair. If I had any juveniles/fry; it'd be a hell of a lot more...

    Discus fish

Or... you can get some sponge filters & give them water changes several times a week. This will get you discus faster, and they will grow WAY bigger than otherwise.

    Discus fish

Bare bottom tank (no gravel) is the preferred discus growth tank. You'll be grateful to have one when you are doing all those water changes per week. ;)
