When I cycled my tank a few weeks ago, nitrite went from 5ppm for a week straight to 2ppm to 0.25 in around 24 hours. And my nitrate went from 160ppm to 80 to 20 to 5 in the same amount of time. So just be patient, it will happen soon.

So much waste from live rock though? I've only fish in for 24 hours.

Yea, i had a lot of die off from my rocks but this looks more like powdery dust instead of the other stuff I had last week so I thought it might be different. I just did a 30% water change and got a lot of it out. I plan on getting more CUC next week, any recommendations?

2X Ocellaris Clownfish I added yesterday. (Had no fish before that) 2x Nassarius Snails 1x Turbo Snail 3x Trochus Snails 4x Blue legged Hermit Crabs (tiny babies) I added a week ago. The tank is around 1 month old. 38 gallons.

I'm actually having a similar issue though my tank is only 3 weeks old. I added my CUC early yesterday morning, and i got .50 nitrites yesterday night. This morning I did another test and it was .25 nitrites so I did another 20% water change. I just wanted to add that I wouldn't add anymore...

Did you add any CUC or fish to your setup for the spike to happen? What did you add?

So my nitrites were 0.50 ppm yesterday night after adding the CUC early that morning and i did a water change and got it down, and it was .25ppm today and i did another 20% water change. Not sure why i'm getting the spike, i thought only the nitrate was supposed to spike after adding the CUC...

The tank dimensions are 36 1/4 x12 5/8 x19 3/4. Would this be too much? 2X Ocellaris Clownfish or Clarkii Clownfish Royal Gramma Basslet Yellowtail Damselfish or Azure Damselfish Yellow Angelfish or Flame Angelfish Would the Ocellaris be too peaceful for the flame angelfish?

Did some tests and ammonia and nitrite are 0 for the first time! Wooohoo! Nitrate is 5ppm. Gonna leave it 2-3 more days and make sure the level is stable then add my CUC! Ahh, so exciting. :p

I like the blue-legged hermit crab and crab emeralds.. Are they any disadvantages to having hermit crabs?
