This is not a water quality problem. I have been using the exact same water for over a year. This particular water I poured in out of the identical bucket of water I used the last two times. Even if it lacked minerals a 25% change wouldn't have made a differance.

I considered that. The water was colder than what was in the tank. But I've heated it back up and still with the panting.

Actually, they don't. They are in there with other fish, whom I am looking at right now. If they have got any lighter at all it is so slight as to be totally unnoticeable. Over the years I have had gourami, loaches, betta, goldfish, guppies - and never in my life witnessed any of them change...

If the other fish got any lighter at all it was so slight as to be unnoticeable. Unlike tetras, who can turn so clear you can see their insides.

Tetras, a loach, and a dwarf gourami. The tetras pretty much ignore me but the loach and gourami are very friendly and swim up when anyone approaches the tank.

Why can't the jerk do a water change? :huh: Would it break his arms? If he agreed to having the tanks there in his place, doesn't that imply some responsibility to the fish? I can't imagine letting any creature in my care, or in my house, just die. He just sits there watching them get sicker...
