    Disappearing neon tetras

LOL... we only converted the tank to freshwater a few months ago, so we're still building when it comes to livestock.

    Disappearing neon tetras

Ok, so I need to find new homes for the puffer and the angel, keep an eye on the gouramis as they get bigger (they're too small to be much of a threat right now) and add more clown loaches (was planning on doing that anyway). The large plecos will be going back to my brother in law sometime...

    Disappearing neon tetras

The angelfish is a little smaller than my palm, so his mouth is EASILY big enough to swallow a neon whole. That solves my mystery then. Thanks guys!

    Disappearing neon tetras

I have a 175 gallon freshwater mixed community tank that I added 10 neon tetras to last weekend. As of tonight, I'm down to 3. :( None of the fish are showing any signs of disease or distress and the neons are the only fish disappearing. They aren't in the overflow boxes or the sump and I...

    Texas Aquacultured Reef Enthusiasts

TARE is generally located in the North Central Texas area, but everyone is welcome. We have meetings/frag swaps every other month. It's all very friendly and casual... get together, talk shop, swap frags and generally have fun with other hobbyists. The meetings are usually held at either an...

Live Rock FS in DFW, TX

Ok, after breaking down our 120 gallon, we have some live rock for sale. It's fully cured (was in an established tank for almost 6 months). There's approximately 200-250 lbs and the pieces are softball sized and larger. We're asking $3 per pound... buy as little or as much as you want/need...

    Yellow Tang Food Advice

Our tangs and other herbivores seem to like Julian Sprung's Sea Veggies (green or purple) the best of all the dried seaweed sheets.

    sand vacuum?

It actually depends on the type of snails. Nassarius snails and conchs are snails that spend most of their time on and in the sandbed. Cerith snails are also good snails for helping keep your sandbed clean. Mephistopheles: What I would recommend is getting a mixture of nassarius and cerith...

    Gonipora

Goniopora have a dismal survival rate in home aquariums... although no one is really sure why. On average, they survive about 3 months... which was exactly our experience with the one we owned. Supposedly, the red goniopora are hardier, but I'm not willing to take that chance again.

great deal on RO/DI filter under $80!

LOL... you two make me glad that my husband and I are both addicts in this hobby. I can't imagine the difficulty trying to explain the need/expense of all of this to a spouse that just doesn't get it. "You payed HOW MUCH for bacteria covered rock?"

    LR and tiny bugs

Welcome to AA! The tiny bugs you are seeing are most likely pods... tiny shrimp-like crustaceans. As for your tank, I would suggest researching any new fish you want before you buy them. A 40 gallon tank is too small for a tang of any kind, much less two of them. Damsels tend to be very...

I'm not sure there's anything you can do to make the process go any faster... but you should start seeing the beginnings of a new crown within a week or so.

Ebay is just wonderful... you can find just about anything there. Thanks for the link, I have a feeling we'll be buying one of those in the near future. :D

    Cleaner shrimp?

Skipper: Inverts in general don't really add to your bioload in any significant way. In fact, they help decrease the bioload stresses because they are consuming leftover food and such. Mark: Again, as long as your levels are fine, you should be ok adding a second cleaner.

    Protein skimmer

I'd recommend just using super glue gel... it will hold better.

    Cleaner shrimp?

You should be fine using the 5 gallon plastic tank. Just rinse it with some RO water before and after the acclimation.
