    Filling Up My Tank

The bubble traps look good The return needs to 2x as large as it it now IMO.

    Sheps 5 gallon sump build

I agree with Hank to much going on there. I use the extra flow from my return pump to churn the fuge. All the drain water goes into the socks.

Took me 6-7 days, if i had to do it again i'd overnite the live stock to a LFS and take my time restocking.

    Sheps 5 gallon sump build

thats a lot of flow it will work as long as you split the return My return is around 500 gph split into two and it seems fine in my 6 gl. with a 10 gl sump

    Sheps 5 gallon sump build

The return pump can be bigger use a T to split the return with the extra flow goin to the sump this keeps the sump churning and does not restrict the pump The extra flow can be used to run a reactor also. The U shaped return line hangs on the back of the tank Drill a 1/8th hole in the return...

it works for encrusted rock as well just zip it to the eggcrate keeps them from shifting/rolling and crushing corals. You havent lived untill you've done a 5 gl. water change in a wal-mart parking lot lol

    GouramiLover's Nano Reef Build

Ship coral in a different pail you can load a pail with live rock and cover with the old tank water it will be fine. When i moved cross country i made racks from egg crate then zip tide the coral to the racks the racks fit into a 5 gl. pail worked great no losses.

Dont put heaters probes etc. in the return chamber the water level will vary unless you run an ATO.

    Creating a storm

Mine made a mess of my tank The sand was new but rinsed after running the HOB for about a month the clouds stopped I think it just removed the silt that the goby was stirring up. JMO.

    Quarantine tank

short answer No you'd be better off using the 20 as a QT tank the larger water volume will help as well as the extra room drop a piece of pvc in there for cover a HOB filter and heater are all you'll need

    Creating a storm

You can remove the goby or run a HOB filter filled with floss (thats what i do) The floss will polish the water rinse it in your old tank water that keeps the bacti base alive.

Questions for doing a 20 gal long DIY sump

I dont have any in my sump but it cant hurt to have one before the return area. You dont have a lot of flow threw yours so you may not even need any.

Get some water in that thing, you dont want the skimmer running while your cycling.

Questions for doing a 20 gal long DIY sump

If i were to do it again i would use a marine paint about 1/5 the cost. The return is a bit small you will NEED an ATO Im using a JBJ that has been in service for the past 6 years. If it were me i'd make the return area 9 inches, a little smaller fuge wont hurt.

Questions for doing a 20 gal long DIY sump

I like an in sump skimmer just for the piece of mind if it over flows it dont flood your floor. The return area is where you'll see any evap. so if you have a small return area you will need an ATO. I lose about 5 gallons a day to evaporation. Trust me i love my ATO lol. Even the smallest fuge...
