    My little 10 Gallon

While a small tank can be more difficult to care for, as long as you keep up on it's maintenance, it shouldn't be a problem. I've kept 10-gal tanks for years without a problem. But make sure you don't overcrowd your tank with too many fish. Even with the most diligent care, an overcrowded...

    Freeze Dried Tubifex Worms Safe?

You should have no trouble with them. I've fed them to my fish more than once with no ill effect, nor have I ever heard of anyone having problems with them. Not all fish like them, but many do. The soaking Masha suggested is also not a bad idea. I'm sure that freeze drying food for fish has the...

    Additional filtration and capacity

I would say that you are good to go to add more fish. But stocking guidelines are based on the surface area available in the tank for gas exchange to take place. Adding a second filter may help, but if you lose power, you may lose fish as well if it is overstocked. I answered a similar question...

How to achieve acidic water conditions with sufficient buffering capacity?

All of those chemicals are carbonates and are used to raise pH, not lower it. Adding chemicals such as vinegar may do it, but are only a short term solution that takes great care in applying or it causes more problems than it solves. Driftwood, peat moss pellets or almond leaves (Catappa) will...

    Bright green spots.

Looks like algae to me. Algae is encouraged easily with an excess of nutrients and light. Healthy plants are the easiest way to keep it under control along with less light.

    Are these rocks safe?

It's kind of hard to ID them from that picture. This topic was covered in more detail in a past thread. You can check it out here: http://www.aquariumadvice.com/forums/f15/arent-rocks-just-rocks-147133.html#post1286737

    Water change question...

Just keep in mind that overstocking a tank can cause other problems, even if you are diligent with maintenance. There is more going on in these situations then just excess nutrients, wastes and their attendant problems. Overcrowding often causes restricted growth and development in fish. This...

    Tinted Water Help/Advice

If the water is a slightly green color, then I think this looks like a protist bloom. As long as it doesn't get any worse, it shouldn't be a problem. The organisms involved are just taking advantage of the excess nutrients in the water from the cycling and is normal. The only time it is a...

absolutangel04 is spot on, that's the one. I couldn't remember the name for the life of me.

    help I've been invaded

They look like planaria and if so, are completely harmless. This is what the look like greatly enlarged: They are often seen in tanks where the fish have been overfed. The excess food causes conditions in the tank that is favorable to them. The best way to be rid of them IMHO is to be more...

    Fish ID

It actually looks like a very pale bloodfin, which could mean that it is still adjusting or may be in need of better nutrition. That would hardly be unusual for some LFS. The body shape is right and the fins, while not red, are the right shape. It even has the white edging on the dorsal and...

    Back again

A 220! Ah, my dream tank. I've considered building one from scratch, but I have not been brave enough to try it yet. I'll be looking out for your posts about it.

Have I really been gone THAT long...

Thanks guys. @Just Another Fish Guy, As a matter of fact yes. I have a 55-gallon I've been itching to set-up. Once the basement is ready, it will be. I'm an avid DIYer so I'll have a custom background and filter for this tank. Sent from my BN NookHD+ using Aquarium Advice mobile app

Have I really been gone THAT long...

Hello all, At one one time I used to post quite a bit in these forums. Unfortunately life started getting in the way and I became too busy to visit regularly. I'm getting ready for the final push to finish the house remodeling this year, so i'll finally have more time to post. It's nice to be...

Re - occuring Fin rot? (Getting Angry Here)

If you are still having the problems, I think you should continue salt treatments. It seems to be the only thing that has worked well so far. Keep an eye on your water parameters as well and keep the tank clean. The white growth's along the edge should be the fins growing back. That is normal...

    shrimp

Too true, I forgot to mention that. Some larger fish may consider crayfish food as well. I've seen larger fish and crays get along well together, but that doesn't mean they all will.

    shrimp

Your Cichlids would make short work of any shrimp other than the larger, more aggressive types such as Macrobrachium species. Macrobrachium Shrimp are known eaters of any the smaller types of fish like Corydoras, Tetras or similar sized fish. They are also aggressive and territorial with their...

    new 29 gallon community tank.

There are none that I know of. All of them require some access to dry land or a place that they can get out of the water easily. Also, all of then are brackish water creatures with the exception of Thai Micro Crabs and maybe a couple of others that would be hard to get.

    Fright of my life!

Green water is the result of a protist bloom normally caused by excessive nutrients in the tank. Green water is not always an evil. In moderation, many fish actually seem to benefit from it according to Dr. Innes. Green water often occurs naturally in nature anyway. Think of some of the ponds...

    new 29 gallon community tank.

I agree. That was the first thing I thought as soon as I saw them. With a clearer pic (a real challenge with most rainbowfish) I might be able to ID the type. I'm pretty sure that they are some type of rainbows though. The body style matches.

Re - occuring Fin rot? (Getting Angry Here)

Salt can cure a lot of fish problems. I'd say that if you are getting results and he seems to be improving in overall health, then continue with the salt. The food is still an option, but don't use any other medications than the food with the salt.
