    10 gal newbie

Haha! Been there done that! No, you do not need any of those co2, or special lighting or any of that stuff if you are looking to get a start on planted tanks but are wanting to make everything work out. Granted, they do make for some pretty beautiful tanks! First off, check your lights! What...

To Dirt or Not to Dirt...

I say it depends on if you will be carpeting the tank or not! I dirted my tank with very little plant experience, and absolutely hated it at first. Mainly because I was moving my sword and crypts around far too much before I finally became happy with it. I think clay would be a good idea, not...

So I Want a Planted Aquarium...

I agree with both of them, but, and I am likely wrong on this as it feels like a vague memory, are banana plants not quite tall? I want to say I have read 24-32". Glad to see a couple vets giving a newcomer some sensible advice and not pushing high light and co2 on you. I started my tank in a...

    Compatable tank mates

With the ottos in there it would definitely make me overstocked! But great idea! Maybe I will make some trades in the future. ;) Finally caught one of the males all prettied up for a lady friend in a video!

    Compatable tank mates

Thanks guys! I'm going to be filling in the sides and the top(hinged) with black wood as well, so all you will see when it is done is the tank itself, no filters or lights. And the sword was pretty slow growing until it hit about 9 inches tall, then it kind of exploded. So I hope the best for...

As promised, PICTURES!!! Unfortunately the DG was quite curious every time the camera came near, so I couldn't get any of the males fully flared up. But here they are! Stand still needs some finishing touches, but it still looks alright, for now that is.

Pictures may have to wait for a few days, but they seem to be quite happy, starting to brighten up again. I'm going to be too busy building the new stand for my 20g!

12 spotted blue-eyed rainbows purchased today, they look gorgeous and healthy! Currently in qt. Also building a new stand! My fishes will soon be living underneath my tv. Picked up the lumber today, cut and painted.

    Compatable tank mates

Well, went in to the store today just to look around, and they just happened to have blue eyes in stock. As soon as I actually saw them I couldn't resist. 12 quarantining, will be added soon.

Rummy nose were definitely on my list, but the classic fish keeper in me wants something I haven't seen often. So far the rummy nose are my number one though.

    Compatable tank mates

Hey guys, I'm looking for some more fish to put into my heavily planted 20G. Currently just have ottos and a dwarf gourami. Looking for something that will go well with both as well as add a little more activity to the tank in the daytime. The gourami is pretty laid back, and enjoys sneaking...

So, I have already noticed some melting in the crypt that was moved to the front corner. But I have no concerns about it! Three leaves have started to yellow, and will probably die off in the next day or two, so I will be trimming those today. But, to replace them two lovely healthy looking...

Well! Once again I got bored and started mucking about... Moved a couple plants around and added a stone bed through the middle. Wouldn't really make sense in nature, but I think it adds a bit of visual depth. I'm looking forward to the micro sword to fill in fully on both sides. Although I love...

Hey Jon Sorry it took me so long to reply, the issue slowly cleared up with daily cleaning and has been gone for 4 days. Thanks so much for the help!

Oxygenation for a large natural pond.

Awesome, thanks! The planning can continue now that that issue seems to be out of the way. Checking peramiters of the water tomorrow, just to be sure it isn't too toxic. :p

Hey Jon, Sorry, I thought I had posted one with the original issue, definitely white and cloudy. I have been cleaning it every second day or so, and the growth rate has decreased. Here is the photo from the second post, cleaned it all out today. I have seen this referred to as white mold in...

Thanks for the suggestion, I will take care of that today. I removed all of the mold that day and it has already started to build up again.

I was cleaning my tank today, and noticed a huge amount of white mold around my co2 diffuser. Any ideas what the cause could be? Last water change was 30% 2 days ago, vacuumed the tank during it and haven't noticed any over feeding or excess materials lying around.

Oxygenation for a large natural pond.

Hey everyone, My mother is a small scale farmer, and would like to be able to have some aquatic life in the pond at her farm to help keep it clean. I don't know very much about the topic, but to begin with, her main issue looks like it will be oxygenation and water flow. She is looking for a...

My micro sword is finally starting to form a good looking carpet in that front left corner, and now I want to move it.. Here is a pic of the current progress: But I think it might look good if I could get a nice thick carpet surrounding the DW. Would probably have to find a way to balance...

DIY co2 in for 4 days, and already seeing huge results with my micro sword. Still need a better method of diffusing, losing huge amounts of co2 because it isn't diffusing properly.

DIY co2 will be going in today, built with a 2L bottle and a syringe as the drop checker. Still looking for a subtle and effective diffuser. Would it be worthwhile for me to order a glass one, if I have plans for pressurized co2?

Awesome, thanks! I do have 6 ottos in the tank, have you noticed any issues with sensitive fish?
