fertilizer for wysteria and amazon swords

I added a 2.5ml dose of Flourish already. How does the Wysteria respond to liquid ferts? Thanks for the help everyone. Roy

What brand of root fertilizer tabs? The Seachem stuff?

fertilizer for wysteria and amazon swords

I'm hoping to get all water parameters tonight...ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and pH. I'll report back. Until then, here's a picture of the Amazon Sword.

fertilizer for wysteria and amazon swords

Low light. A single T8 the width of the tank. The fact the plants used to rapidly grow for the first 7 months or so until a couple months ago on the current light setup leads me to believe it is not the light. I'll admit I've let nitrate get too high in the past, but I've been good at keeping...

fertilizer for wysteria and amazon swords

I have a 28 gallon bowfront planted with Amazon Sword and Wysteria and am using pool filter sand for substrate. Both plant types used to thrive, but now the Wysteria has stopped growing and the Amazon Sword leaves are becoming transparent, paper thin, and a very light brown. Is Seachem Flourish...

Sorry. I missed the "Profiles" in the forum title.

I'm sure the pooping will slow down once there is less food to eat.

    oto's poop like crazy

I picked up a couple oto fish (one didn't survive so I only have one) for my 28g Euro bowfront tank last week. It's doing a great job cleaning up the algae that has thickly accumulated on the side of the tank. However, there is poop all over the bottom of my tank now. What's the deal with these...

The (almost) Complete Guide and FAQ to Fishless Cycling

Thanks pigeonfood. I've got fish in the tank now. Ammo and nitrites have remained at 0 and nitrates have been slowly climbing. Even had to do a 35% PWC last night. All is well. Thanks for the help everybody. I'll have to post a picture one of these evenings.

The (almost) Complete Guide and FAQ to Fishless Cycling

Awesome!! My nitrates are at 80-160ppm and obviously way too high for fish. I'll do a 50% PWC right now, do a bunch of yard work, and then a second PWC in a few hours (if nitrates are still too high) before going to town to buy fish.

The (almost) Complete Guide and FAQ to Fishless Cycling

6/11 10:00AM I tested last night 21 hours after dosing ammonia up to 4ppm. Ammo dropped to 0, but nitrites only dropped to 0.25-0.50 (closer to 0.25 than 0.50). I did not dose ammonia back up. I checked this morning at 10:00AM (35 hours after dosing ammonia to 4ppm), and nitrites were at 0. I...

The (almost) Complete Guide and FAQ to Fishless Cycling

6/9 9:00PM I actually have a positive outlook after this evening's tests. pH is at 7.6. Ammo is at 0. Nitrites are at 0.25-0.50. Nitrates are at 80-160. I dosed ammo back up to 4.0ppm. Yesterday's PWC turned me back around I think. Tomorrow's check will only be after 20 hours, so it would be a...

The (almost) Complete Guide and FAQ to Fishless Cycling

I don't think I'll need to run crushed coral all the time. The first time my tank cycled, I was still able to completely go through 4ppm ammonia in 24 hours without the crushed coral. We'll see I guess.

The (almost) Complete Guide and FAQ to Fishless Cycling

Wow, what a finicky bacteria colony. After 22.5 hours from the activities above, pH had lowered from 7.6 to 7.0-7.2. Ammo only lowered to 0-0.25 and nitrites only lowered to 2.0-5.0. So I did an 80% PWC. Nitrates are still at 40-80...they were 80-160 yesterday...closer to 160. Nitrites are at 0...

Clean up crew for a 20 gallon tank?

What about otos? I'm picking up six cardinal tetras, three danios, three glo danios, four peppered cories or schwartz cories this Saturday. It would be nice to get two otos at the same time too. This is in a 28g bow front (24" x 15")

Clean up crew for a 20 gallon tank?

What constitutes an established tank? A brand new tank that just completed a 4ppm ammonia fishless cycle has a rather stout bacteria colony. Couldn't that be considered well established?

The (almost) Complete Guide and FAQ to Fishless Cycling

Good news eco23!! My tank is cycled again. 4ppm ammo is reading 0 ammo and 0 nitrites in 24 hours. So this evening I removed the CC bags from my filters, lowered the temp back down, lowered my bubbler flow, and dosed ammo back up to 4ppm. Tomorrow evening, if nitrites are at 0 again, I'll do a...

7.8 after 24 hours in a glass cup. I was also 7.8 after letting my lava rocks soak for a week in a plastic bucket.

I guess you did just now. I set out a glass so I can test tonight and tomorrow morning. My pH did not improve over night so I changed out to fresh CC

The (almost) Complete Guide and FAQ to Fishless Cycling

The pH starts out at 7.6, but it crashes after about four to five days after a PWC. I'm not sure if it will continue crashing after the tank is cycled and I have fish. I hope not. I could probably give the water company a call. We live at 5100 feet in Northern Utah right below Snowbasin and the...

The (almost) Complete Guide and FAQ to Fishless Cycling

I don't think it is dropping. It's hard to tell because the API color chart is kind of lousy. I've never seen a 0.25 or 0.50 according to the chart, and 2.0 and 5.0 are almost identical. On my tank I've seen dark purple working it's way to lighter purple and then just blue. Today it was a...

The (almost) Complete Guide and FAQ to Fishless Cycling

When I let the rocks and glass dry up, it must have only killed off the nitrite eating bacteria. Strange I know, but the ammo continued to read 0 after 24 hours. Rocks and plants are in final resting spots, so no dumb mistakes on my part anymore.

The (almost) Complete Guide and FAQ to Fishless Cycling

Yep, the CC is what helped me complete the cycle the first time. Then I pulled a bonehead move and pulled out the rocks and let the tank glass dry up during my final PWC. Oops. I'm hoping for fish on Saturday. We'll see. The good news is that my wysteria, anacharis, amazon sword, and some other...

The (almost) Complete Guide and FAQ to Fishless Cycling

Well, the pH was dropping, so I had to put the bags of crushed coral back in. What a bummer. I went from completely cycled to crushed coral. At least I didn't convince myself that all was well and bought fish. The crushed coral won't harm the plants will it?
