    Stocking Help - 60 gal

Interesting idea! Any particular species recommendations? I'm totally pondering a gold nugget pleco once the tank is more established. A friend offered to buy one for me. XD Snails are probably a really good call. o.o

    Stocking Help - 60 gal

Yeah, that was my concern. :/ The 60gal is the largest tank I have at the moment, so I can't rehome the Blue Acara if major aggression starts happening.

    Stocking Help - 60 gal

Thanks! :D Blue Acaras are so pretty. @_@ I read that they're likely to bully smaller fish. Is that accurate or not so much? Yay!!

    Stocking Help - 60 gal

Hallo all! I have a heated, planted tropical tank pictured here: Current stock: 6 black skirt tetra 6 gold skirt tetra 6 serpae tetra 6 galactic purple tetra 1 bristlenose pleco So, the tank is already pretty full. Is there room for centerpiece fish of some kind, like a pearl gourami or an...

Stocking for 60 Gal & Clean Up Crew Advice

I was kinda thinking a brittle sea star, cerith snails, nassarius snails, and some peppermint shrimp. :) Not sure on numbers for the snails & shrimp, though.

Any suggestions for a clean up crew? :)

Stocking for 60 Gal & Clean Up Crew Advice

I've got a solid light, so I should be covered for light levels, but I don't want to bleach out the other stuff just to get the birdnest enough light. :/ Similar concerns with flow. I can get the needed flow, but I don't want to create too much flow for the rest of the tank. New proposed...

Stocking for 60 Gal & Clean Up Crew Advice

Maybe cut out the Banggai Cardinalfish and add one Firefish? I'd also love to have: Birdsnest coral Cauliflower Colt Coral Thick Finger Leather Coral

Stocking for 60 Gal & Clean Up Crew Advice

Building my first reef tank - 60 gal, 48.5" x 12.75" x 25" with PFS substrate - and looking at the following for fish: Blue Reef Chromis (5) Zebra Barred Dartfish (3) Royal Gramma Basslet (1) Banggai Cardinalfish (3) With one each of the following coral: Colony Polyp, Orange/Green Trumpet...

LED Lighting Needed for Soft Corals in 60 gal Tank

The subject line kind of says it all. I'm setting up my first reef. Planning on fish and soft corals with 3" or less of sand substrate in a 25" tall tank. Wattage on LEDs seems to be wildly different than wattage on standard lights, so I'm baffled about what kind of LEDs I'd need for the setup...

    Order of Operations

Stellar! That is what I needed to know. Thanks muchly! :D How important is curing live rock when you're first starting up a cycle? I mean, it's not like I have an ecosystem to disrupt at this point. >>

    Order of Operations

I'm building my first SW tank - 60 gal reef - with the help of a friend. She used to have a 125 gal reef tank, so she's fairly knowledgeable, but she's never fishless cycled a tank before. I want to fishless cycle, but I'm not sure what order things need to go in after that. Should I cycle the...

    Stocking Advice

OH! Yay! :D Thanks, Toad. Yeah, I totally want a Badis Badis. Just one, though, since I don't want territorial issues. I would need a tank twice as large as the one I have to keep even a single archerfish. They can get up to a foot long. Nothing in my current plan should get above 6".

    Stocking Advice

Frogs, or anything amphibious, isn't really going to work for the setup that I have in mind. I'm looking for pure aquatic. It's going to be a well-hooded tank because I have two cats. I want an aquarium, not a sushi buffet.

    Stocking Advice

So true! Still, if I had to pick between Banggais and Blue Reef Chromis, I think the Chromis will win. Which is why I was hoping that I could squeak by with two small schools. ( I knew three would be too much, but I tend to be really indecisive until I finally bite the bullet and run with stuff. )

    Stocking Advice

Yeah. I'm totally planning on a fishless cycle, no matter what. I'm home on FMLA-protected leave, so daily water tests and adding ammonia is no problem. The wifey is around to help with heavy lifting things, if I need her to. I heard that badis badis can get territorial with others of their own...

    Stocking Advice

I'm planning on fishless cycling before adding any live fish, and I'm not really going for brackish. I want true freshwater or full marine. Thank you, though. :)

    Stocking Advice

Fair! XD Banggais are gorgeous, but I'd ruled them out because my research labeled them as semi-aggressive. I really want a docile tank.

    Stocking Advice

I'll probably end up going with Blue Reef Chromis, then. Sad panda about losing the PJ Cardinals, though. :(

    Stocking Advice

Noted, and thank you! :D I'm assuming that I need to pick between the Blue/Green Reef Chromis, the Pajama Cardinalfish, and the Blue Reef Chromis? I feel like trying to have all three groups will overstock the tank, but I'm not sure how far I can reasonably push it.

    Stocking Advice

See, I wanted sand, but a more experienced person who's been helping me suggested coral because of possible nitrate (?) spikes in unturned sand. :/ I know that's a problem in FW, not sure about SW.

    Stocking Advice

I'm waffling between a marine setup or a freshwater set up - I still need to get equipment for either one - but I like to plan things out well in advance. Controlling our favorite pest

@Simoneack Snails, and snail eggs, are often found on live plants and stuff that people use to stock a tank. They might not be visible when you first buy it, but they're there. I have a few snails in my tank (all from live plants, I'm sure), but not nearly as much as owen0992. I hope you...
