I have tries to balance all of those those things with some success. But its driving me nuts.

Im just running out of ideas cause I changed all my ways. I have been doing everything by the book. I don't have co2 but I read that helps control the algae so maybe I need that. I don't know. I'm going nuts.

Just wondering since I have done everything else to combat my algae issue. My tank is in front of a window but it has a curtain that is always closed however it looks like light is coming through. Even though its not direct, will it still cause algae? Here's a pic,

Here's what it looked like.

Its lighter in color where it was. I applied some prima fix and salt to the area with a qtip. Not all at once. I added a tad bit of salt to the aquarium as I had some internal parasites take down 3 of my fish. One I had for years. Bummer.

Are people still on this forum? I even have a picture.

Actually i have an update. It grew overnight and when i netted him to check it out it fell off of him. I noticed his tail is a little lighter in color in that spot. When i examined the thing that fell off it is not solid its more mucus(ie?) Anyway, any thoughts.

Anyone know what this might be?

Hhmm what light is it. That seems low. Mine are both 58 watts. If that's the case what size is your tank?

This is true that's why I upgraded. The standard T5 was only giving me about 80watts in a 55 gallon tank. The Hos give me plenty at like 120or so. It does have to do with spectrum as well though. The blue bulbs made a tremendous difference in my algae growth. By removing the one blue bulb.

Did you get the HO light

I have the sake problem. Mine actually turned into bba but I got rid of it by killing it off with Excel and then getting a new light. I went from a regular florecents to an HO florescent. I noticed a big improvement it no longer turns to bba. I also got rid of any blue lights. I liked them...

If you have low level lighting why would you not need fertilizer? I have some plants that have been in there for months and some as recent as last week. I had a problem with bba so I cleaned it up, got a T5 Ho light added more plants and the problem is solved.

Need some professional opinions. My plants are growing in gravel with liquid fertilizer and root tabs, however, I think can benefit from some substrate. I also have first layer literate. What's the best thing to add to gravel without to much effort in removing fish and plants. Thanks...

He didn't seem happy in my home either. Always stressed looking and jumpy. Not good since I have kids.

Its okay I took the killi back and got another Otto. They are hard to come by round here and have plants so I can't do a pleaco. The killi is beautiful but I never see him. He's always at the top just behind the tank rim.

Do you know a lit about killifish? I have one and he's super bright but lately he's been black. I'm assuming he is nervous. Correct?

Can I keep a golden wonder killi with an otocinclus catfish. I'm worried the killi is gonna eat him. I already lost a Danio. Never knew what happened to him but I can guess.

I actually did some of that. I removed all the dead leaves and left just the green. When I did that everything else seemed to start to die faster. When I pull out a plant the root systems are awesome. That's why I'm so confused.

Yeah I believe it has a reflector but I will double check when I'm home. I didn't realize light from the too of the bulbs could be lost like that. When you say PAR what are you referring to. Sorry I am totally new to plants and lighting. I've always just got what made the fish look cool.

I didn't its a gravel substrate with First Layer Litrite mixed in along with Seachem root tabs.

But why? I read as long as you have 40 watts for a 55 gal your good.
