    brown algae annoying

The age of a tank doesn't determine necessity/frequency of water changes. That needs to be based on individualized testing/tracking. Just going off your info here its 100% a trate/phosphate problem. Get some testing done, figure out what your nitrates are at then you can formulate a plan. We had...

    Stocking 29 gallon

Imo if you want to maximize stocking in this tank, I'd upgrade your hob to a bigger one. I cant stress this enough that its just MY opinion here but I tend to take the manufacturer rating for tank size and half it. Id look for one rated for 55-75g

    New 125g cichlid build!

Update: Not much honestly. Added more rock work to provide more hides for everyone. Added 7 more cichlids to finish out the stock list. One thing worthy of mention, it seems our well water is around 20ppm trates right put of the tap, so long term here we will be looking at an RO unit.

    Mobile App Changes

Reviving this here. As a member that was dormant for years and now active again, it seems like this forum has died off unfortunately. Will the mobile app be booted back up on the new software? Or is it permanently done? Also could we get an answer for tapatalk

    pH drops every day

Stop using ph up. All its going to do is cause swings like this which is worse for the fish. To expand on Andy's comment you need to add a proper substrate that will constantly buffer your water and help stabilize at a higher ph

    New 125g cichlid build!

Absolutely agree and we aren't chasing numbers in that regards. We usually sit down in front of the tank each night for 20-30 min and watch. Everyone is great and happy. The tank seems to be fairly stable so the last thing I want is to chase a number and throw the tank out of whack.

    110 litre tank

Late response here but being that its a 29g id really stick with very small fish like tetras, guppies (although they reproduce like crazy) endlers etc. Even stocking fish that get 3+ inches will see you end up fully stocked REAL quick

    125g tank reseal

I wouldn't throw it away. You absolutely CAN reseal tanks. Many people have done it and had success. Theres just no real guarantee with it. Being that you are 14 if you have any source of income (chores/ minor side jobs) an option would be to reseal this tank however possible, then save up for a...

    Cycled tank but then!?

just my .02 here but i say just monitor (test) every 2-3 days and do water changes as needed. eventually you will fully cycle and then can settle into a routine for WC.

    125g tank reseal

as someone that went through a 125g leak and the adventures of resealing id honestly say that just simply replacing the tank is the far better option here imo. sure people have resealed tanks but i personally never had peace of mind after i resealed. i was always worried sick that i was going to...

    Stocking a 100 gallon?

Fwiw we have a 125g cichlid setup here. Currently running a fluval fx4 canister, a fluval cp4 powerhead and a maxi-jet 1400 powerhead. The canister is outputting down lower in the tank and I have a powerhead at each end aimed up for surface agitation. Long term, we will be adding an fx6 canister...

Complete Newbie - done a bit of research and now overwhelmed a bit

Something also worth mentioning here is of your platy friend had an established tank (lets say a year or more older) try to get as much filter media from them as possible out of the existing setup. This could possibly help you in "seeding" your new tank and cut the cycling time down

Complete Newbie - done a bit of research and now overwhelmed a bit

Imo here Gazza, I wouldn't even consider setting up the smaller tank yet. Being that you are fairly new to this and learning as you go here, trying to manage 2 separate tanks while cycling could be a bit overwhelming. Id get the bigger tank cycled, nice and stable THEN focus on the smaller tank...

    Cloudy water after cleaning!

With Andy here. 2 possibilities. 1) micro particles that your filtration just isn't snatching up. Could either try running a polishing filter setup or altering your existing filtration to include a polishing pad. 2) bacterial bloom from wiping out too much beneficial bacteria. I would never...
