    New set-up Possibility

I have a 55 gal tank that is pretty long and tall, just your run of the mill 55 gal. Anyway, am wanting to do something different and was thinking through a lot of options. One is maybe trying to set up something that would mimic a river community, any suggestions on this. As a follow up, any...

    what about sand??

Saw this post and had a similar question... but also, how much sand I heard 2 pounds per gallon of water, is this a good guide? and will aerating the sand remove the anaerobic pockets? how often to aerate? and does anyone know of an invert that would aerate the sand but not take the tank over.

man you guys are great for help... my pH generally is around 7, and maybe a little higher (not sure of the accuracy of the kit I have ) and I have a lot of small gravel in the tank, it sounds like that may be good for one type of set up, but I need to make sure i match up my fish right...

    Cichlid Tank

thanks for the help. right now my water parameters are fairly normal, and was wondering what you meant by "changing water parameters can be a pain"? The sand/rock set up looks really cool but what aerates the sand? and do the fish you have in there "get along"?

I have an outdoor pond and was wondering the necessity of a pump to get oxygen into the water if I planted aquatic plants in it. It seems to me that if there are plants in there they will add oxygen to the water... is this addition sufficient enough to support fish? oh so many more...

    Massive Ich! Rebuild tank?

You know I would tend to agree with jsoong, 4 hours seems WAY to short of a time to expect ich to completely die off. Remember that the part on the fish is only one portion of the life cycle of the parasite. furthermore, remember that the stages in the substrate are not all the same "age"...

I'm studying fish in college... actually about to graduate in May (YEAH), but have always been interested in nature, fish, and ecology. So, having a tank seemed like a logical step. Starting New...Any Advice?

I'm wanting to start up a reef tank. I currently have a FW tank, but want to add to my hobby. Given the fact that I'm currently a student kind of (okay... really does) put a damper on the cash flow so hoping to save some by doing a lot myself. Have been reading up a lot, and know there is a...

Fish Tanks and Human Disease: FYI

This is right on... it's not only human activity that spreads disease (Although it sure seems to promote it) but everything around us. From the beetles that carry tapeworm juveniles to our dogs. Proper washing of hands probably will take care of most of the things that you would need to worry...
