    Truly aquatic question

Did you try and take the plant back to PetCo? Does anyone know if they will exchange it? I just bought one, unwittingly, and I'm very disappointed.

    Latarite/Flourite issues

I recently started an aquarium using fluorite as well. I read somewhere that rinsing is a must, but that drying is absolutely necessary if you don't want a muddy or cloudy tank. I had no clouding at all with mine. Plus, when I poured in the water I actually did it with a small hose line that...

Adding more flourite after water is in

I decided to use flourite and grow some plants this time. My 20 in nearly cycled but I've already got the flourite in there. Problem is I don't think it's deep enough. What is the easiest and cleanest way to add more flourite while the water is still in there? Or will I just need to deal with a...

    Penguin 150: Media options

So I bought the 150 because years ago I was very happy with my Emperor 400, plus the 150 has 2 slots for filter sleeves. It seemed cool to me, until I read in AA that a lot of the more experienced tank people don't use carbon at all in their filtration, just ammo rocks and sponge. So I'm...

He's hot for Guppy. She wants a vacation.

Rich311k, I kinda wish the others would keep the guppy pop in check, but I don't think Zebra Danios and Cloudfish are going to do much. Rosenweiss, the 2 females look very distinct from one another. libraygirl, they seem very happy, especially all the babies. They are growing vey fast, and they...

He's hot for Guppy. She wants a vacation.

My male guppy is in love with one of our female guppies, and for a month now has been trying to show her how he feels. In one month we're up to 10 healthy guppy babies and she looks like she's about ready to give birth to octuplets. Other than separating these 2 is there is a way to slow down...

Stocking new 30g, bottom feeder help!

Red Tail Sharks are my favorite fish, but it's true they are very aggressive and territorial. Mine was crazy and would attack my Convict cichlids constantly. My first experience with one was when I bought a very small one for a 20gal. In that tank he had to deal with 4 Tiger Barbs. One day I...

    110 gallon build

I have used lace rock and malaysian wood spread out over large grain sand in my old 84gal, but nowadays I'd probably use granite instead. Maybe you could use flourite for substrate, about 2 inches of it, and that way you could flirt with planting later.

    changing to sand.

Your tank looks nice. Sand is really easy to clean IMO. I have a larger grain sand in my 10gal and when I clean it I just swish the tube around to stir it up and I'm good. By the way, is the name of your tank ZELDA?

Starting 20g. Have wood need plants.

Here is a picture of my 10g. I'm not sure if the lace rock is going to be a problem. I used to have 2 lights working in my eclipse hood, which I think was contributing to the brownness of the rock. I've taken one bulb out so maybe that will subdue the growth.

Starting 20g. Have wood need plants.

A friend of mine suggested I may have had a piece of plant hiding amongst the cloud fish when I introduced them. Makes sense. I guess I just didn't see it. For quick cycling I realize I have that green plastic plant up front, which came from my other tank. I'll have to post a picture of that...

Starting 20g. Have wood need plants.

There is a strange thing happening. I seem to have 2 plants growing in the flourite already, and I haven't planted yet. When I prepared the flourite I rinsed the heck out of it, and then baked it dry at 200F. I live in Seattle so putting it out in the sun was not an option. Where could they...

Thank you tlkng1, I must have spent an hour looking for this wood, and then another hour arranging it. Thank you for the link Mr. Limpet. I'll keep an eye on the ammonia and nitrites for sure, and hope those nitrates show up soon! Thank you daileene, I look forward to being a part of the...

Starting 20g. Have wood need plants.

I just got back into the most obsessive hobby there is with a 10g FW and a 20g FW. I'm planning on planting the 20 so I've put down a bed of flourite. I just put in my rock and wood today and thought I'd share what I have so far. I through in a plastic plant just for contrast. I'm running a...
